Bantams...such totally cute birds. So easy to get sucked in to the little ones. I would have to rebuild my whole place if I got those beauties.

I played catch up all weekend after being sick the week before. Never did get caught up. Still have chicken houses to clean and birds needing spring dusting. And at some point I need to clean my house!

Still, I have lots of gorgeous chicks hatching. I have had two cockerels hatch in my Welsummers out of two hatches totaling 24 chicks. Two. And Someone was promised one, so I'm down to one. I need more! Nice to have lots of girls, of course...but I neeeeeeeed boys! More eggs in the incubator!

howdy

Been awhile busy with spring coming in, one of my year olds decided to go broody so happy.
Now there is so much todo and a set time clock not really set up for chicks at the moment but can make it work.
It funny how wide that lil' girl can get, wish I knew how many she has. Was getting 6-8 eggs a day once she set it been 1-3, is she adding to the clutch?

Hope you all have a great week

If other hens can get to where she is sitting, you need to take her off and mark the eggs. Than every time you check for eggs, you need to take her off and make sure she only has the marked eggs. Any unmarked eggs you simply remove and you can still eat them if you check every day. This way you don't have chicks hatched and still have half developed eggs that she might not finish sitting on.

I also enjoyed the show at WS. People, if you have not been to shows, you should go.

You get to talk to other chicken people. @Coop Scoop Boogie spent some time looking at the Sumatras with me and gave me some good pointers. Thanks!

You get to see other peoples good stock and what choices the judge makes. This helps when choosing you to evaluate your own.

You can make contacts, and network with people you may want to work with in the future.

Lots of trading goes on. There are sellers there. Also a lot of people make deals ahead of time and deliver at the show location.

It was a good day!

I don't know how many if any of you could or would be interested in helping... But there was a cockfighting ring in SC that was raided last night. Carolina Waterfowl Rescue now has many more birds than they can handle (100+ roosters)... that need good homes! They also need help in the form of transportation, donations, and just well HELP. They also had a large influx of chickens and chicks, and ducks prior to this. Please if you can, and are genuinely interested, email them. You can read more about the rescue efforts, and the rescue in general on their facebook page
https://www.facebook.com/cwrescue?fref=ts
or Email any questions to [email protected]

I do not volunteer for Carolina Waterfowl Rescue, but I am advocating for the ones that need our help. Please do not be rude, nasty or negative.

I hope they find good homes for all of them! They don't adopt to anyone that breeds any sort of birds though... which unfortunately prevents most of us from helping them.

Of course we can still volunteer time and make donations to their cause even if we aren't allowed to take any in.

Hello all. Hope this cold snap last weekend was the last one. I have a question about worming, has anyone used the kind called Strike III? If so how long do you have to give it to them & how long do you throw eggs away for? I know I should have done it sooner but........ Well you all know how that goes. So little time and so much to do. Thanks for any help with this

Unfortunately most regular chicken people are not setup to handle game cocks. They require their own pen or area where no other male can get to them, or they will fight and most often to the death. Wish them the best of luck with this.

Good morning folks

Soon it will be time for all that fun with the grandbabies and eggs.
We seen some lovely eggs last weekend at a Farmers Market
that had been decorated using silk and they were quite pretty.
I have also seen on the internet lately a how-to on making them
so I'm thinking about doing that with the kids. What does everyone
do for decorating the eggs? I love hearing ideas.
