North Carolina

Does anyone live near Mooresville? and know where I can get a good coop that is not too much money. I don't have a problem putting one together but have limited tools so cutting my own lumber is out of the picture. I keep hearing that the ones online are too small for chickens to fit.

Anyone traveling north to WV anytime soon? I have a family of chickens I'm trying to get to a sanctuary up there.

They're small and flimsy, but they might be okay if you put them in a really secure run, though. We have a chain link dog run that we reinforced with hardware cloth that does the trick. There's a ton of used ones on Craigslist that you could use. Our chickens sleep in our shed, and our ducks are in a plastic dog igloo inside the reinforced dog run. They all free range in the day. You can also make some pretty good coops out of pallets. Everything is already cut and it's fairly inexpensive.

I'm in Dolores, about half an hours drive from Alicante, on the south Costa Blanca in Spain

@ramirezframing

Hi!
lovely to hear from you!
I'm new to all this. I've got 2 buff orpingtons and 2 cochins. all girls, all 10 weeks old.
I intend free ranging them in my garden. They were moved out to their coop 2 days ago and are staying in there for a while so they know where 'home' is.
I'm a little concerned about the heat as it is 36ºC in the sunshine and 28ºC in the coop. I've put ice in their water.

I'm lucky as we seem to have very few natural predators around here. Only dogs or raptors (hawks I think, but I'm no expert) The local farmers let their chickens and ducks free range in the open fields along our lane, and it's very rare that I hear of any being attacked.

My birds will have apple trees and citrus trees to hide under, and take shelter from the sun. And the run of a 4000 square meter garden. We have a climate here similar to south California - mediterranean climate, what else? I'm not sure how the climate is in Carolina nor if you have to deal with predators.
We also have a dog, and 3 cats.

You say your location is knee deep. Is there really a town called knee deep??? Or is it just you're knee deep in animals???

I call Carteret County home.

I have 2 Brown Leghorns, 2 black Australorps, 3 Dominiques, 4 Back Jersey Giants and 3 Gold Lace Wyandottes. They are all between 5 and 6 weeks old and have just been moved from the brooder on my enclosed porch to the coop. I have them on chick starter grower feed by Nutrena and offer them an occasional treat (mealworm/oat mix). They have been an interesting project thus far.........

Haven't been on in a while! I found my broody a new home where she could be a mama since I've had to break her multiple times over the last year I've had her. That brings my little flock down to 4. I love my girls! Hope everyone is ready for summer!
