Elanieinspain, Just out of curiosity what is the gas price over there?

depending on what you're buying, be it diesel, or unleaded petrol, and what octane the quality of petrol, and where you buy it - some cities are more expensive than others, and petrol stations on the motorway are always more expensive than elsewhere - the price is between €1,10 and €1,45 per litre. 1 litre is approx a quarter gallon, and €1 is on today's exchange rate $1,13

So that works out at around $4,40 - $5,90 per gallon.

I must add that in western Europe Spain and Portugal have the cheapest petrol and diesel prices.
In the eastern side of Europe (what used to be communist and is still very poor) the prices are a little less.

I didn't know spanish cochins had 5 toes. Here in the USA the cochins have the normal number of toes (4). Silkies (a chinese crested breed) has 5 toes and black skin. The houdan also has 5 toes along with the sultans.
Chicks and some breeds as adults like silkies don't tend to roost, but most chicks as they get older will do it on their own. So I wouldn't worry too much there.

Oh! I'm sorry! I didn't make myself very clear there.
I meant that the Andaluz Azul have 5 toes!

the cochins here have four toes - like everywhere else!

hey! the kiddies paddling pool is a good tip - thank you!

Ice can actually be a shock to their system. I like frozen jugs {milk, 2/3 litre bottles} they can climb on or hover around and frozen treats {like watermelon}. A fan blowing over a frozen jug is kind of like a swamp cooler. I also have a mister, and hose down the areas under the coops {sometimes the roof, too} where they dust bathe.

yes, I also fill 1,5 litre water bottles and freeze them and put the bottles in the coop and where they like to lie out in the shade, and I've noticed they balance on them, peck at them, try and roll them around and lie near them. I've never seen one of my chickens actually lie on top of one, just close to one.
I mist them with a water spray bottle (for hairdressers) but they don't seem to like it much. Of course I don't spray the water directly at them, just sort of aim at the air above them so they get a soft falling mist. But I think it stresses them out more than cools them down, as they panic and run away from it!

I'm going to plant an empress tree next to the coop too. I have heard they grow 15feet per year! and they have a high canopy with enormous shade giving leaves. I've ordered the seeds online and will start to grow them in the protection of my porch for this summer before planting out when it's big enough so the birds don't peck it to death!

Quote: The gas pricing sounds a lot like here in the USA. I am amazed at how money means one amount in one place and something different elsewhere. I remember when I went to Mexico a few years ago that $1 USA dollar equaled to 13 and some change in pesos.

Here the Andaluz Azul also have the regular number of toes (4).
