Thanks, mjh! I have 2 red sex links, 2 black sex links and 2 mixed silkies. I've actually posted on the What Breed? board and one of the mixed silkies is probably a polish cross, still not sure on the other one. They're an entertaining group of girls!

Hello everyone. We moved to NC a year ago. We came from Nashville where we had six girls. The people who purchased our home wanted to keep them so we left them behind. We couldn't keep them in the temporary apartment with the cats and dog anyway

We just did a hatching project for the 2nd graders and it has brought our bird fever out of remission. I thought it was time to reopen backyard chickens and see what the locals were all about.

That is great! Welcome. I am new to BYC the website and BYC in general. I too hatched chickens in my classroom. My own children fell in love and before I knew it I was putting together a coop. What part of NC do you live in? I live in Mooresville and teach in Charlotte.

So many broody hens. So so many. I admit that I have no control of the insanity. I already have 45 chicks so far this year and it's not even July yet! The broodies just keep coming and, apparently sensing I'm at my limit, they are hiding from me now...I just found one this weekend under the coop with a big clutch of eggs. You win chickens! Do what you want!!!

Hey North Carolina! I am in Forsyth County. I have a Splash Maran pair for sale. They are getting prettier every day. I still wonder if the hen is a light Blue Maran or Splash Maran. Time will tell. Only interested in selling the pair together, or the cockerel only. Let me know if you need more information or pictures. $30 for both or $10 for cockerel only. Weaned from heat lamp. About 4.5 weeks old. Here they are....
