North Carolina

I am also in Northern NC. Such an ugly day here in NC! Cloudy and wet. Only in the 50’s.
I have many ducks and chickens as well, and it keeps a person busy. Lol, birds in large masses eat and drink a lot. Always feeding, watering, and keeping their temporary home clean until I get a coop.

Happy days!

Keeps us very busy indeed! My ducks are enjoying the sprinkles of rain every few hours, they keep catching the drops in their mouths. 🤪 I have really been enjoying the hot sunshine lately but I shall be patient and let the ducks enjoy the rain. ;)We just got done about a week ago building a separate duck house for the many ducks that will need a home outside soon..

Oh yes, my ducks are out enjoying the drizzle. It’s the wind they don’t like!
One of my duck houses is almost complete. It’s a good size to hold 6 ducks. I just need to find an old dog house or something for them to bed and shelter. Hopefully will be finished after this weekend.

Hello All -
I am in Northern NC. My crew currently consists of 20 baby Muscovy ducks, 5 adult Muscovies, ISA Browns, Barred Rocks, Buff Ops, Black stars, a single Americana, and an RIR Rooster with more chicks on the way. Very busy over here lol!
Hello! I'm in the Winston-Salem area and looking for Buff Orpingtons. I'm trying to find them locally instead of buying and shipping online. Northern NC covers a very large area ;). Are you close to the WS area at all?

Back in action here in Walkertown, NC. Life changes moved me from the Raleigh area to the Triad and I'm starting a small flock again. Now I live in the county and am allowed roosters! So excited! Our property isn't too big, so I'm keeping the flock to 10.

I'm trying to find Buff Orpingtons to include 1 rooster. I'm just not thrilled with ordering birds on-line. The coop is nearly ready (we converted an old shed), but the brooding pen is ready-to-go. Anyone know of a hatchery in the Triad area or somewhere that wouldn't require much more than a 2 hour drive?

Can't wait to get back into the Chicken Tender way of life. I miss my old flock. Those girls were beautiful, productive and lived good long lives. I'm excited about new babies :jumpy

Hello -
I am not too close to the Winston-Salem area and I don't plan on parting with my Buff Ops. I do have to warn you though, I have had 2 Buff Op Roosters and both have been on the more aggressive side. 1 was super aggressive and the other was on his way to being nice :gigjust very cautious LOL.

Good Luck with your new flock!:D:jumpy

Good to know! Thank you for that feedback. I'm looking for a good meat and layer and heard Orpingtons were the way to go. I had Reds and Bantams before since we were mostly just in it for eggs and pets for the kids. But now, and looking at the potential for inflation, I have to realistically consider supplementing our grocery bill. Do you have any thoughts or suggestions there? thanks! ❤️

@Vonduganboxers have you looked online for hatcheries in NC?
I'm over in Western NC and don know of any around this part of the state. To get my Orpingtons I bought eggs from a member and had them sent to me.
You know, I hadn't thought about ordering eggs and honestly didn't even consider it an option. My main concern with ordering chicks online was that I might find one dead upon arrival. That just makes me cringe.
