We havd HPN1 in western Nova Scotia, they just culled 12000 turkeys at a farm. Restrictions are in place for commercial operations within 10 kilometres of the affected barn to prevent the virus from spreading

It's so weird, last month we had a pair of Canada geese stop in our field near a siding pile beside our barn, which has not happened in the 22 years we've been here. We actually put out cracked corn for them, I thought it was so cool and interesting.
I would have felt like crap to chase them off but I would have if I'd known what wild waterfowl were possibly carrying. Good thing our birds are cooped and in a run, no illness thus far.

Yikes! Poor birds and poor farmers, that cannot be an easy situation to deal with. I hope they're at least able to recoup the losses somehow.

Hey all! Question for my Charlotte 'peeps'- I'm moving to the area from Minnesota next year. I love the idea of being in an HOA-style community for my kids who are currently quite isolated from other kids where we are now. BUT- I'm guessing HOAs are not going to be very chicken friendly... I'd prefer not to be in an HOA but they seem to be pretty prevalent in Charlotte and surrounding areas.. (we don't have a lot of them here in MN) Anyone know of HOAs that allow chickens? Thanks!

Mine doesn't allow them...but it doesn't explicitly NOT allow them, either. And I know I"m not the only person in the neighborhood with chickens. You may have more luck finding a definitely chicken-friendly place in Matthews or Mint Hill or one of the other smaller towns nearby. Even Monroe or Indian Trail if you want to look that far out.

Was going to suggest Matthews & Indian Trail as well, I think the further out you go the more 'in the country' you'll be and less likely to run into people who think chickens are a nuisance.
