Good Morning Neighbors

I'm suppose to be on my way to Chatanooga TN to meet Judy and get my 6 new birds, but~~~I can't get off the mountain, much less, make my way to the interstate

Talked with Judy, and she's not sure if she get home to FL. So it looks like my babies are going to take a short vacation in FL with Judy, until all this weather clears.

HenThymes, Miss Lydia~~~you'll okay? I lost internet service this AM, and I'm sure I'll lose it again when the artic winds hit us around noon. We've got about 3 inches of snow now. Thank God, all of my birds are alright....all the Silkies in the barn were toasty......I opened the door to the "big girls" house and they wouldn't even come out when they saw the snow!! so I put their breakfast bowl in their house. Everyone had hot chicken noodle soup mixed with creamed corn and Rice Krispies (one of their favorite breakfasts').

I had one house of Silkies left out in the big Silkie kennel.....they have a heat lamp in their house so they stay toasty warm and their water doesn't freeze. But~~~the canopy over the whole kennel collapsed from the weight of the snow.....so I had to cut my way into the kennel, and shovel snowbanks to reach the blacks. I finally get to them, open their door, and their all standing there as if to say "gee mom....what took you so long?"

You'll take care, and stay warm

Good morning everyone. Hope you all are warm and toasty, We are and boy are we getting the snow about 5 " so far and more on the way but it's warm out only 33 this morning. BC you got 3" wow! sorry you had to cut your way into your babies. Glad they were okay. Some of my chickens came out this morning when I opened the door but my bantams didn't, It's too hard for them to walk in it. So they all got warm oatmeal with raisins and honey. Aww thats too bad you aren't able to get your new babies. Well they can go to FL. and have some beach time, swim in the ocean and act like tourists. This Dec. is looking alot like last Dec. looks like we're in for a doozy. Well I am wondering the same Hen Thymes, I never thought I'd want Silkies but they are so cute, just don't know how they would fare with my game hens. Well ya'll have a good one and keep those piggies warm. Blessings,Trish

Morning to all!!! 3 inches here in Candler. Hope all are well and warm. Just got in and the Kids are all happily eating and staying warm! Amazingly my coop is holding at between 42 and 46.
My Roo is in need of a Charge, his crow is so funny. He sounds like an old car horn hooked to a nearly dead battery! Cant wait till it develops. Maybe that can be my birthday! Thanks for the Tip on where to post HenThymes.

Hopefully it will clear and Spring can step on Winter , as Winter jumped Fall!
Peace

Awwwhhh~~~you made it Miss Lydia; I didn't think you'd still have your internet.

I've already drawn up GALLONS of water; hubby has checked the generator.....the forecast makes me think it IS going to be like last winter

Silkies do "alright" with LF, but I think they fare better with other bantams. Me~~I don't mix them at all, but then again, I'm trying to breed for perfection & showing. So long as you keep theirs crests (feathers on head) and beards trimmed so they can see, protect them well from predators (they can't run fast, and can't fly!!) they make lovely additions to your flock. They're more docile and friendly than alot of breeds, so they want your attention

, and will climb up on your feet to get it. The roosters are MUCH LESS aggressive than other breeds, and will mother chicks. Most don't roost, so they need a clear spot on the floor to pile up and sleep. They really need at least one other Silkie friend to hang out and sleep with. Of course you know they're excellent broodies, but not the best layers.

When Spring rolls around, let me know when you're ready, and I'll give you a few

BC I understand Silkies can get a brain injury from being pecked on the head? Do they really have a soft spot like a baby and does it close over eventually? I have 5 full bantams with 3 brahmas and 1 full game hen the rest are mix game bantam but even though they all get along they do peck each other. So far nobody has been injured. Thank goodness.
