Sandy you really do a good job Selling the Silkies!! The woman i Bought my Guineas from had a few and they sure were cute she put them on her Guinea eggs . I Bet my wife, would melt if i got her a few for Valentines day! Shhh! Anyway thanks for the Idea.
Do yours use a ramp to get in the coop, or is it Ground level? Would they use a Dogloo?
Greenskeeper, you did an awesome job on your coop, really looks nice! Isn't it wonderful when we can recycle things. Our son worked in construction till he got laid off but anyway he brought us all kinds of material and thats what we used to build our houses from. We are in Burnsville, not too far from Asheville

Thanks!
I have some Polish right now and two of them I have to keep there crests and beards trimmed as they cant see where they are going. My buff laced ran into a wall one day and that's when I decided to trim her feathers. I would love to get some in the spring, I have been throwing the idea around of making a coop just for the bantams in the spring.
What an adorable picture! and as for a girl friend for you blue ribbon roo contact Bat Cave Silkies she has show Silkies! Congratulations on the Blue Ribbon.
Miss Lydia~~you're right, Silkies do have a "vault"; a part of their skull where there is no bone....it never closes up; some have very large vaults, some have smaller ones. Alot of Silkie breeders breed for large vaults because it makes the crest appear larger. A Silkie that's going to be a pet, in with other breeds, should have a small vault~~but yes, they will still be vulnerable to a peck that can cause neurological damage, or even death.
Greenskeeper~~I've sold ALOT of my pet quality hens to a guinea breeder near Tryon...lol...she uses them to hatch the guinea eggs because the guineas won't. I can fix you up for Valentines day
allabout~~I know it's terrible, but I always have to laugh when one of my Silkie girls runs into the walls, fence, feeders....they can't see!! that's why they do so well in confined areas. If you put a small flock of Silkies in an acre of pasture, they'd use about a 10ft x 10ft area~~~they don't like alot of room
vfem~~you're right...we did talk a couple of months ago. I was selling out of my whites and had 1 white hen left.....but we live waayyy far apart. She showed very well at the Morganton show and I sold her there. I'm still keeping my eye out for a white hen for you though (something a little closer to you)
