"Project" being that these are not colors yet available in orpingtons, well at least not in the US. So I have worked hard with crossing to come up with some beautiful colors and then getting orp type right. My chocolate project has been going on for a year, yeah I know the UK chocs have just made it to the US but having American diversity will be a good thing! I currently have mille Fleur, chocolate, blue laced red and lavender bantam orp projects.

So you do this full time. Will there be genetic problems like there is with dogs, I'll say dachshunds since I know them, like breeding a dapple which is a color [recessive gene] to another dapple can cause health issues. and also deformaties.when working to get these new colors?

Well, it has become a full time hobby but I think it is worth it at the end of the day!

I am not a genetics expert, only know enough to be dangerous

To be honest the only issue I have heard of when crossing birds is in lavenders, there is something in the genetics of lav to lav that does cause more in egg deaths and problems. Though I can say that I have only experienced the loss of a chick or two toward the end before pip but never had any born with any defects or deformities. As to my new colors nothing has popped up yet in the past year.

Here's a picture of the rooster for the blue laced project, he's actually DH's favorite and that says allot for him to have a favorite. Beautiful coloring in person.
