Good chilly Friday morning to everyone!! I will be "gone" for the weekend as today I have many errands to run to get the "tools" in place for the framing that is to be done this weekend!!

my DH is so sweet...he wants to get the entire frame done tomorrow so next weekend he can put the walls up and then we can start painting.

I'm super blessed & spoiled by this guy!! So today...I am headed out to Lowes to pick up the correct drill bit size for the anchors (oops...DH picked up the wrong ones...haha) and see if they carry a drill that is powerful enough to drill through cement!! Something called a hammer drill?? Who knows. Also I get to pick up the paint!! BARN RED!! OH YEAH!!

I wonder if it would be wrong to give the DD a paintbrush and let her experiment...

Just kidding...I know her...she'd EAT whatever was in/near her hands.

So tonight...yep, tonight is DH's favorite dish...just because he deserves it!! That means LOTS of baking/cooking in store for me today once I get back. WOOT!! (Awe heck, I adore cooking/baking, so it's really a treat for me...hehe)
I am also happy to report that my lettuce, cabbage, cauliflower & peas are really growing (the best news is for whatever reason...the deer are leaving them alone!!) hoping to get my peppers in the ground here as soon as it warms up!!

Peppers!! Still need to get the tomatoes and other veggies in the ground too!! Bah, so much to do!! The coop MUST come first...I mean, haha...nope, I mean that!!

Nah... it's not too early! We already have our sugar snap peas, cabbage, garlic, onion, and lettuce in.

My asparagus is coming up like crazy! Get to workin', time to plant!!!

I am using a still air little giant that I borrowed from a friend. It has been staying at 101-102 and I can already see that the eggs are developing

but the temp will not get above 98.4 today should I be worried?

I would be concerned, maybe try gently wrapping some towel or blankets around it to prevent any air from escaping and see if it brings up the temp? Developing chicks can't handle temp changes for long periods of time, that's why most hens only come off the nest for a few minutes at a time.

I thought I would pop in to say HI to everyone!! I am ready for the 70+ weather again...I'm COLD!!
I spent some time at Lowes today getting some PAINT (barn red...oh yeah!!) and a toy for my DH! He originally bought a one gallon can of paint...I was like REALLY? For an 11' barn...seriously?? I think it was just an excuse to get me to the store to buy him a treat. His birthday is next month and he LOVES tools, so I bought him (with the help of my friends at Lowes who speak in "girly-girl" terms...oh yeah) a hammer drill!! This way he won't have to burn up the motor on his drill to drive the anchors into the concrete!!

Yes...I have a great man!!

He'll be thrilled with the new toy (so long as he doesn't ask how much I spent

). I snuck in a treat for my DD and myself...picked up a few more seeds. I didn't have any squash and that is her FAVORITE veggie aside from yams...which I can't find seeds for

. I know he won't care that I bought those few things. Anyway...praying that it doesn't rain tomorrow or else the build will be on hold.

NO RAIN, PLEASE!!

So...what do I FEED these chickens?? I've heard/read so much...my head wants to explode!! I've heard grit, oyster shells, they're fine free-ranging, scratch, layer, pellets,

Any help from my favorite BYC group??
Off to finish painting and working on making my hubby his favorite dinner!!

I can already SEE my coop built!! If only he'd HURRY UP!!

We also feed lots of chick weed, dandelion leaves, tomatoes, celery, cucumber etc. NOT ONIONS or POTATO SKINS....... Otherwise they will eat almost anything. My 10 week old Silkies are loving the chickweed they are getting outside. Also fruit they love...........

I was just reading last night about someone having a problem with pasty butt with their new chicks, and another poster was reccomending chick grit and also using sand to counter this problem any one ever had a problem with pasty butt and used either of these and it worked?
