Believe it or not, my DD's doctor tried to tell me today that once a person is affected, they are no longer contagious and it does not spread. I don't know what her experience is, but I can honestly say that it's always been a terror for me. Anyway, the REAL reason I wore long sleeves was to prevent myself from getting any MORE of it while working on the barn!

We have ALL - count them ALL the walls up and even ONE window installed. On top of that, we have the doors cut out and painted. DH says that the doors will be installed tomorrow and probably another window...but the "screens" and such will be done Saturday. It's FINALLY coming together!!

Hey BHep...I have 2 mystery eggs in my yard if you want them to try to see if they hatch!
lau.gif
I think they are sparrow's eggs or another small bird. I know it's not a robin's egg...for it's not blue. Haha. Anyway,

Sorry she was poo'd on!! Were you a good mommy and stifled the laughter until she was out of sight?

COOP UPDATE: We worked on the coop a bit last night, which I already posted, but I had something I just had to get off my chest.

What is it with my neighbor?? He is a sweet older gentleman, don't get me wrong, but he drives up into our yard on his ATV with his two MUTTS (sorry to you dog people out there), lets them run all over our yard and one of the two little
duc.gif
PEED on my daughter's play pen while the other one ran around the barn "marking".
rant.gif
SERIOUSLY? Then he takes my daughter for a ride on his ATV WITHOUT asking me.
he.gif
I was NOT a happy momma and my DH was looking at ME like, "say something if you're not comfortable with it".
smack.gif
HELLO?? She's not even 9mo and he's trying to drive an ATV with ONE hand while trying to hold onto her as well - meanwhile his dogs are running around my yard peeing and pooping. How can you be okay with this?? Am I being over-protective? We don't know them that well, but try to be friendly/neighborly, but this crosses the line for me. You don't pick up someone's child (especially when she's entering that stranger = cry stage) and put them on your vehicle without asking. I won't even mention the fact that she was playing in the yard happily until the mutts ran her over licking her face which caused her to start screaming/crying hysterically. She is not accustomed to dogs because my DH and I are NOT fond of dogs (I was attacked by my grandmother's dog - have a wonderful "snake" scar on my face as a permanent reminder ...at the tender age of 4) so she has not been around them. She usually cries when she sees one, but then if the dog leaves her alone and stays on the ground, she finds them cute & will "talk" and laugh at them. She cries when they lick/go near her face. I'm sure she will cry when she sees the chicks for the first time, but they won't be jumping on her to "lick" her face.
somad.gif
As if all this wasn't enough to make me irritated, he tries to collect them (they completely ignore him) and start running into the barn. He tells them, "there's no chickens yet...we'll come back later to see them". EXCUSE ME? <sigh> there goes my plan to free range, can't let them out with him dropping by with his hellhounds unannounced.
rant.gif
Don't get me wrong he's a nice man (yes, I keep telling myself that...I need to), but these things irritated me and I needed to VENT to my BYC'ers who would understand.
hugs.gif
You all are wonderful!!

Gosh Ruthann doesn't sound like you had a very nice evening. And yes you do need to tell your very nice neighbor that you'd rather he not take your 9 month baby for a ride on his 4 wheeler. As for the dogs, people don't seem to think anything about letting their dogs run loose it's all over here too. We don't have close neighbors so if I see any dogs running around our home I just bring out the 22 or shot gun and fire off a few rounds at the bank behind our house, doesn't take long for them to get the message. Sorry your having to deal with this. vfem, those pictures are priceless when she grows up you'll have to have that one framed and given to her. It's so cute. chicks are adorable too.

Yikes , I would have freaked out about the baby 4 wheeler thing ---- but I remember before my Dear Sweet Father in Law passed away, he did not understand the " You don't touch other folks Babies " ... Old schoolers Ruth Ann , a different time and different people . Next time just say --- " you will give me a heartattack Love " .... and grab the baby - hey this old timer may be a great source for chicken help .

Dogs - yikes , okay I am a dog person , I love my DOGS - I have 4 - 2 German Shepherd Dogs and 2 Pugs - I try to be a really good dog owner and understand some folks are not Dog People - like I am shocked when people see my Pugsley and do not fall to the ground and kiss him - shucks I think that little dog has hung the moon and stars ( just ask Gavin ) ... but some folks don't feel the same . The old fellow should not let his dogs do that in your yard but again, he is Old School --- I would just try to be nice, but there again I am a softie when dealing with kids, old folks and yes critters.... I do not know his dogs but I would ask him "hey , Mr So-n-So I want to let the girls free range , can I trust your dogs are not out during that time ? " Chances are he will be a great source to keep on your side.

TSC --- so do you like Silkies ??? We have a couple you may want to add to your coming flock - chat with Gavin.

Ruth, I have to say I have one of those neighbors. He uses his ATV to come have a 'visit' and to my husband & my dislike tears up the grass throughout the backyard and around our fruit trees. He's been asked to stop and he's watched my husband reseed where there were 'ditches' from the wheels. One night while we were having dinner he was running around the pond on the ATV and right at the corner of our pond he slid right into the pond on a muddy patch. He gets my husband to help him get it out while I go get a towel for his 6 year old who went in with it. (With NO HELMET?!) Needless to say, hubby finally asked him not to do it anymore... he has 2 acres and some woods on his property and he runs up and down the run, if he wants to bring the ATV over, just use the driveway. I also told my daughter in front of him, it was too dangerous to ride that at her age and she could get on it. He better have heard that.

Plus, I think by now the neighbor's know.... I shoot dogs in my yard with a BB gun. It does not go over well with me... leash law free county or not, if you love your dog you'll be master of your dog!
