BHep, Broodies just know sometimes?! Its weird! I have silkies that always kick the bad eggs out that didn't develop. I don't know how they know, but they do!

The only thing I can think is that they know by the weight of the egg from turning it everyday?? As the chicks start to grow the eggs have to feel different as she turns them thus knowing the good eggs.

I have to say, the hen that pushes out the bad ones it a very smart mama!

Hey everyone... It's been a while since I popped on, so here is a bit of an update...

Em, Grizwald is still doing well. (the ugly little naked dog) He has come to try to own the house. Not much marking anymore. We finally came to an agreement that if I walked him each morning, an official on the leash walk, he will not poo in the house. Unless it rains, then all agreements are off.

and here is why I really popped back on...
I have a friend that I gave 3 of my SA/WH duck eggs to. His daughter wanted 'real magic' for her birthday, so they got her an incubator.

This past Friday my friend, a 38 yo man in peak health, had a massive seizure that led to heart failure. He was put into an induced coma, and is not doing well. He has a beautiful wife, and 3 young daughters. I need some healing thoughts/prayers sent his way. I also want some prayers to go to the 3 eggs that are scheduled to hatch in 2-3 days. If they do hatch, it will be a welcome bit of new life and happiness for the girls.

I am mustering up all the good vibes and healing thoughts for your friend that I can! Fingers and toes crossed that those little eggs hatch too, all of them!

Many blessings for you and your friend... I hope he's getting the BEST care in the world.
