Allabout: tons 'o treats!

Seriously, when we brought Miss Dellie and her hurt leg into the house, she was Mean! We persisted in talking calmly to her. I heard my girls lecturing Dellie that "we are only trying to help you so QUIT BITING ME!" My middle child will pick up any chicken and carry it around for hours. Dellie learned that if she struggled, it made her leg hurt. (We held her carefully, but struggling made us grab on harder.)

For the first few weeks, we had to help Dellie reach her food and water. Being handled upset her... until she realized her nose was in the food dish, lol.

Chickens are seriously food motivated. Do you have time once per day to hand feed them a meal? Put several pieces of food down. Let them eat it. Add a few more pieces. The Human in Charge controls the food. The Human in Charge should be trusted! And guess who gives the treats? Etc.

I hope this helps you. Good luck!

I talked to others who have gotten eggs from this seller before bidding and was told that have good quality birds, packaging communication etc.... REALLY!!! I am not sure how to handle this yet. I won't do anything until after the holiday. No point!

My chickens love dried mealworms. they would probably love the live ones but I haven't tried them yet. When you get some start by sitting down at their level and tossing a few out till you have them close to you may take a few days or longer. Then put some in the palm of your hand and offer it to them once one comes most likely they all will. Maybe who ever had her made her afraid of people.

also talk to them in a soft voice.

worms!! I buy nightcrawlers from my local hardware store, they will stretch to almost 18" before they snap!

I'm working down a bag of dried, just not as fun as the live ones!!! But, for Brunswick it's great, he gets to plunge his head into the cup of the dried worms.... He likes it, and they don't latch on and fling out.

Hey forgot to tell you we did have a duckling hatch, one died and the other was a dud, but mama duck rejected the only one and she is now our lil duckling, we brought her inside and have raised her in our bedroom. She goes outside now that she is 1 month old but she still sleeps and spends time in our home. I will be getting her a diaper harness when she's a little older so she can visit us inside when she is older too. Maybe next yr. when your mom is up to it we'll try again for ducklings. Unless she already has some?

Thanks, I will work on the treats. She wont eat anything I give her at this point

So Henry our cockerel decided he didn't want to go in the coop anymore and was sleeping outside in the woods!! I tried catching him all day Friday, and Saturday but with no luck he was to fast for me. I was able to get him into the old Temp coop last night ( after dark ) so I figured I would leave him in there. I turned the electric fence on, put food and water in with him and figured all would be good. I went out this morning to check on him and he was dead!!!!!

Something pulled him to the top of the 5ft kennel and broke his neck trying to pull him thru. He didn't even have a scratch on him! I don't know what did it
