We bough/signed on our home in a 2 day window, I didn't know it had an HOA (people that tell you what you can and can't do with that land you "own"). I live in hoke county, just outside of Raeford on the west side.

Yep......window licker mode......lol........I should have known that one. Nope.....no HOA since I live in a rural area and I would not buy a house that has one. I understand being upset at finding out about it after signing. Don't they have to disclose those kind of details before you sign? Seems dishonest to not let you know those things.

Good luck... I am ANTI HOA all day long. It was a stipulation I had in place when we were home shopping. I absolutely wouldn't buy with an HOA involved.

I'm not too far from you I guess.... we're a fuquay address, but we're harnett co near between Angier & Lillington actually. My suggestion to you is perhaps to go to the city and if they fight you ask if anyone in the neighborhood would like to 'dissolve' the HOA and maybe throw them out of power. Sometimes if too many people in the neighborhood don't approve any longer you can have them removed & the community could gather together and indepenently resolve rules and fees to mainatnance. It's cheaper this way and less stressful. Just start a community group. Our neighborhood has one, though it's mainly a community watch... but we all look out for one another, help pay for maintaince in the neighborhood to keep up the look, help each other out by mowing lawns when someone is sick. We share foods from our gardens, eggs from our chickens, honey from the bees and we even have a neighbor with horses so the kids get to ride on occassion by help cleaning up!

I wouldn't move if you paid me!!!

Oh, and we LOOK like suburbia! HAHAHAHA

Two things about your hoa- are their fees associated with it? If not, neighbors would have to pay out of pocket for a lawyer for a failure to comply within a neighborhood.

Second, those things can expire. Then the neighborhood votes on continuation, changes, etc. If your neighborhood isn't brand new, it might have expired. Something to look into!

Or, you could do what we did, asked our neighbors if they minded with promises to rehome animals if they became a nuisance. So far everyone is happy and I plan on offering the occasional egg bribe once the girls really start laying!

Good luck!

Good Morning everyone!!

welcome-byc.gif
to all the newbies!!

I hope those of you that NEEDED the rain were able to get some. It poured here last night! Saw my first coyote last night too...although he was not interested (for now) in the chickens, but chasing a fox or something of that size back in the woods. Saw it when I took the compost out. That has definitely settled it...we're getting a GUN!! Another busy/exciting week ahead. I was able to get ALL (okay, just the big pieces, but SHHH) the cakes done for the wedding. They are not sitting comfortably in the freezer at church. Frosting is made and stored in the fridge...well 10# of frosting is made...might need more. I have family arriving tonight or tomorrow!! Someone to get up and take care of the chickens aside from me...

hehe. The biggest news: I still have a broody rooster!! hehe...I think he just likes the nesting box, for he is in there regardless of whether or not there's an egg. Poor guy is getting beat up by the other two....good thing we're set to put Cotton-tail in the freezer. (Do you notice how I keep saying that and yet we haven't done it?!? I keep losing the nerve!!) I don't want you all to worry, but I will probably be quiet for the next week - depending on how much sleep my nieces and nephew allow me...

that will depend on whether or not I sneak on here and say

Have a great week everyone.
