send in a separate form for each category you want to get and I'm sure someone will contact you. I beleive that you must be NPIP to get them so you should be contacted by someone. Right now since all the fairs are going on the tester are very busy and might not get back with very quickly. I know that it is time for my flock to be tested and I haven't heard any thing as if yet.

I FINALLY got the little cochin hen I have been wanting!!!

Even managed to add a blue laced wyandotte to the mix.

Hello everyone...I am back from vacation and have missed you all!! The time with family was wonderful, the wedding beautiful and most importantly...the FAIR was AMAZING. I will say that the chickens could not hold a candle to those that some of you have!!
big_smile.png
My DD had a ball looking at the "chick chicks" and was very vocal about "NO" (she just learned that word) when we were looking at the horses. I will have to work with her on that one. After all, her daddy will say NO to horses if momma asks, but who can say no to an adorable little girl????

congratulations on your awards!! I think next year we need to have a BYC canning taste testing and treat testing! You and Vfem can bring your canned jams/jellies/etc...and Matt can bring the strawberry bliss and Allison can make us all aprons so when we devour everything we can at least stay clean!!

Glad to see the duckies are doing well. Still working on the DH in regards to getting some!!

SCM - CONGRATULATIONS on your award!!

Loved seeing the photos of your girls and that adorable giant "rooster" you had in your photo!!
lau.gif
He was adorable!! Hope the birthday party for your little man went well!!

Chicken Update: We are steadily getting 3 eggs a day from our 3 girls!! DH has been happily reporting to me daily while I was away!! Tink (the stray cat) is still around and is eating us out of house and home, but she is gaining a little weight and starting to look like a cat again!! We should be able to adopt her out in the next few weeks or so!! I will be sad to see her go, she brings me lizards daily as a "token" (??) for feeding her I guess.

Pretty soon BHep's girls will be laying and I will have chocolate eggs!!

This week and next will be CRAZY with the final cake preparations for the wedding cake I am doing. I will be sure to take photos (if it comes out nicely!! LOL) of the finished project. Wish me luck!! I am also VERY happy to report that after investing in stock of raw ginger...and making a bazillion gallons of ginger tea, my morning sickness has passed and I fell absolutely wonderful. Thank you
hugs.gif
for all of your suggestions and helpful hints!! You all are the best. So who wants to come over and have a pen raising day? I'll cook...chicken!! LOL We are in the preparation stage of fencing in a portion of our yard for....SHEEP!! Turns out my BIL use to raise/show sheep for 4-H and has offered to assist us in any/all areas. Now my MIL will be happy with her wool and I will be happy with my raw sheep's milk that DD can finally have "milk" to drink and I can cook for her without an allergic reaction....now to learn how to make butter and cheese and yogurt from sheep's milk...hmmmm

Have a wonderful day everyone!!

Edited to say: I think at least one of my Marans (courtesy of BHep's flock) is laying eggs!! They were hatched 3/17 and when I went to make DD some eggs this morning I saw a few DARK brown (chocolate colored...one was speckled) eggs which were not the same as the light brown we get from our Orps!!
ya.gif
Also...apparently flying takes it toll on youngins as DD just woke up at 10:30 this morning...she went to bed at 8pm last night!!

No complaints here!! Just had to share!!

HT how exciting, will you be showing or just observing? what a thrill...

I will be showing, nervously showing, as to my understanding last Crossroads (5 years ago) had over 14,000 birds.
ep.gif
So far I'm taking one LF orp and one or two bantam orps.
smile.png

That is awesome, of course you know all of us back here in N.C. will be rooting for you. well your birds but it's because of you that they can go. Wishing you the best..

You don't have to be NPIP to get them, but they like for you to be. NPIP testing for NC is pretty inexpensive compared to other states, so it's not too big of a deal to get once fair season is over. You'll need the Poultry/Ratite Dealer license (free) if you plan on selling your birds off of your property, such as a flock swap. Any others are just extra add-ons that you'll need only if you sell over a certain amount of bird or eggs (hatching or for consumption) per year.

Welcome back Ruthann

Congrats on the new family members

Green.... I NEED to get pic up of these BLRW I hatched from you, they are beautiful...... 3 splash, 2 BL. I will not be selling any of these until at least next year, so I can decide who (rooster) to keep. I also have some others from 2 other BYCers, they are older and they have very long leg ??????? I will get pic of them also. For your opinion

Crossroads is up in Indy at the Indiana state fairgrounds, huge show that only comes around once every 5 years. I am already a nervous wreck.

That would be awesome if you took one of Biggie's to Smithfield!

I am thinking of attending that show myself, just not sure I will be bringing out in both LF and bantam orps. I started showing Biggie when he was about 7 months old if that helps any as to the "when" to start showing.
