But the trick to get them to lay onyou like that and be loving and trusting is to hatch one and raise it as your own, we didn't have a choice with Opie because his mama wanted to kill him, but he is such a pleasure. He is my lil boy!!

Oh my...I stop reading for a few days and there are PAGES AND PAGES for me to read just to play catch up.

I think I am exhausted!!

I am happy to report that the cakes are finished and I am officially RETIRING from the cake business...one wedding cake was enough for me. I already have white hair salting my pepper, and I'd thank you to not add any more to it!!

I had several "professionals" ask me for my business card so they could ask me to fill in if they got overwhelmed with orders...I laughed and said "NO THANK YOU!!" in my politest non-southern/southern tone!!

I would post a photo, but for some reason it won't load, so I will try again later and perhaps be able to post it then!! My girls are laying daily now and at least 2 of the Marans are laying here and there...the green egg layer is laying almost daily from the start!! I thought that was a bit unusual, but I am NOT complaining!! DD is enjoying it...she is devouring about 3-5 eggs a DAY for breakfast...little piggie, I know!!

So happy your girls are laying for you!! I think I am just going to have to make a "date" to catch up with you!!

BHep & Ht - I think I have "identified" the green egg layer as she is the only one of the group to be making such a ruckus when I've seen a green egg out there...I too think it is the blue one...although you know how terrible I am with colors so I will try to corner her and get a photo of her!!
smile.png
OOhh Bhep - someday I think I will need to get a peacock from you...just so I can have a pretty fellow sitting out in the yard!!
gig.gif
Of course that will come after I convince HT to hand over one of her English hens!!
droolin.gif
Still working on the DH re: those ducks though!!

I thought I would share with you all, that I have done my part!! I have currently INFECTED my sister and her children with the chicken bug and they are now looking into getting chickens!! <sigh> I can now rest happily knowing I have RID myself of the disease!!

OOHH, just when I had given up on loading the photo...it worked. Here it is...enjoy!!

that I could suspect that blue one. She was sold to me from a BYCer as a blue marans, along with some other "purebreed" marans. NOT !!! Not one is what she told me they were...even told me they were from greenfire farms stock. WHAT evER ! I know that greeneacre also hatched some "blue marans" egg from her, wonder how that turned out ? Glad she is a good layer at least.

Vfem... My ducks are laying like crazy here too.. I am getting 10-15 eggs a day.

They are turning out to be my best layers

Anyone know if there will be a flock swap in Fayetteville soon ? My friend emailed me a CL add, when I opened it ...it had been flagged for removal?
hu.gif
Don't know who or why keeps doing that.

HT - gorgeous!!!

as always!

OLF - that has been on my list of things to do for months!!!!! I need to get on it! I finally started taking out newborn stuff from my nearly 1 year old's closet this weekend - just because I desperately needed hangers! I am waaaaaay behind!!!!!

My big ol' girls had started to have a bit of a hard time getting down from the roost in the morning so this weekend I built them a nice ramp from the highest roosts down to the lower roost and this morning things went much smoother! Success! I'm still a bit worried about them eating their tree roost I made.
idunno.gif
I also added a nice ledge to make getting into and out of the nesting boxes a bit easier and they seem to be liking that so I am happy. I'm hoping this weekend I can actually get my DH to help me get to some of the other fixin' up that was supposed to be done months ago! We'll see!
