I didn't know that she was Egg Bound until I called Tricia, and then we still werent sure until I gave her a bath. She went broody earlier this week (late Sunday/early Monday) so i set her up in her chair (she lays in this folding chair we have on the back porch, refuses to lay anywhere else) by using one of our portable puppy kennels, giving her food and water and some extra bedding below the chair to relieve herself. Well anyways...bringing us to yesterday, I noticed she was looking very pale in her comb and wattles, and when I picked her up to further investigate, and smelled a very sour smell coming from her vent. (this is when I called Tricia) she instructed me to give Tillie Millie a warm bath, and the full blow dry treatment. So I filled up the sink and set her in it, slowly massaging her and basically giving her a bath. She then settled down in to the water, and there was the most horrible smell, and the water was nasty, as she expelled the egg, along with all of the waste she had been holding in as well. It was very icky, but she immediately perked up, and is now enjoying her inside time and all the extra attention she is getting. Comb and Wattles are back to normal, and she is currently sitting next to me on the couch as I am typing

!! How come your orps are so much bigger than mine?? The first one is soooooo fluffy!! And I must say your smooth feathered Silkie girl is absolutely gorgeous!! If her feathering breeds true I'd love a couple of her chicks!!

NH I hope your DH has a better memory for deals like that than mine!! So,

to hoping that you don't have to add stuffing diapers to your Saturday list of things to do!

Okay, chicken swap #2 for October and I am determined to come home without the roo babies I'm taking and with either a Silkie or a beautiful orp roo for my girls in the LF pen. I will go prepared in the hopes that it will happen! Twins have a make up soccer game today then off to the swap with our picnic lunch!

that we don't miss all the good stuff since well have to go late!

I never knew there was such a difference in birds until I got into showing. Exhibition stock is much different and/or larger than just backyard laying stock. I rehomed all of my average size orps and now only raise Exhibition orpingtons in the large fowl and only a few as my main focus for showing is the bantam orpingtons.
