SJ..... You do not "have" to wash your eggs. The eggs have a natural protection, called the "bloom". When eggs are first laid, they are slightly wet, this is the bloom. It dries on the eggs and protects it. NOW............... if there is poop...YES wash them. THIS IS WHAT I DO...... I do not want to open a can of worms here.

You will find people that swear you must 1st wash them etc.
You also can leave your eggs put at room temp for a week and in the fridge 6 weeks , I think ! Mine never last that long

I would... but honestly, I probably don't have the money for the adoption fees they will require. I'm losing my mind trying to find an extra $5 here and there as it is. Probably a good thing not to get any more mouths to feed.

I feel you with this one Shannon, I have been going thru the house for the last month selling items on ebay just to pay my way to Crossroads. We can't afford and don't want any additional debt so I've been trying to come up with extra $$ and stashing it away. Every penny has helped.

Oh man....the only hen I have laying has been stockpiling eggs in her "secret" nest in my garden shed. I ordered my first incubator and was all excited to put those in it. My husband just called and said that something got into the nest and that the few eggs that are left are broken. He found one whole, but I'm sure it won't hatch!

Sigh.....I did also when an auction of 20 white leghorn eggs athat should arrive late this week, but I wasn't counting on those doing much between being mailed and the incubation being my first time..I was more excited about hatching my own fertile eggs. Hopefully she'll lay a few more before I set the first batch..

I'm not sure if it happened last night or during the day today, so it could have been our own dog or something else...It wasn't a very good hiding place I guess..

I just called-basically what I was told was that although they are on the site, they aren't really for adoption because they almost always has a vet tech or staff member who takes them home...Kind of unprofessional to list them at all, if you ask me.

I guess they for legal reason they post them.. that way if there is any question as to why the techs are taking them home they can say "well we posted them but no one wanted them!" I think it is horrible to do that BUT as long as they are ending up in good homes thats all I care about..
