I feel you with this one Shannon, I have been going thru the house for the last month selling items on ebay just to pay my way to Crossroads. We can't afford and don't want any additional debt so I've been trying to come up with extra $$ and stashing it away. Every penny has helped.

We're in the same boat... did a yard sale last weekend... didn't go well. Got stuff listed on craigslist. My husband was going to work for a friend on Saturdays... but his stupid job is making it manditory Saturdays from now on. I'm so mad! His job pays salary... no overtime, so he's working 60-70 hours a week for NO more money. I'm in tears trying to figure out what else to do.

I work so much between part time job, and my business... I can't take on another job!!!

A lot of people dont like to admit they are hurting financially.. I am sure there are many many others.. My husband and I are finally coming up for a brief gulp of fresh air BUT not getting used to the extra cash.. Still pinching every penny as pre caution

Aw man, hubby just got home and informed me they are pushing hard to 'finish' the last of the season's work because they will beginning the seasonal lay-offs here in a few weeks. We'll be going BACK to unemployment and we don't have enough saved to get more then 2 weeks. If only they paid him his overtime we'd have been ok a bit longer.

He's off steaming in the room. Good thing I didn't pick up any extra rescue birds or pigs today, huh?

...God grant me patience...

That sucks..We had a hard time and basically started all over again two years ago. Then my husband got a job teaching in Wake County, but was laid off after just a year. He is on unemployment, too, but does handyman work on the side as he gets it.

Wow! I get sick for two days and y'all write over 10 pages?!? It took me 30 min. Just to get caught up!

I am so jealous of you creative people. I can sew buttons back on clothes a patch tears if they they aren't overly jagged and that is the extent of my sewing ability. DH is the one who hems my pants. Of course, there was the time he sewed the leg shut instead of hemming it, but we just don't talk about that... Lest any of you begin to think DH is in touch with his feminine side, he learned to use his moms old sewing machine so he could sew a blind for his duck boat. Yep. Hunting sewing inspired male seamstress. That's my man!

I am thankful every day that neither me nor DH got laid off this year. As a teacher and state employee it's always a possibility. Adjust found out that due to new laws passed this year I will not receive a check for the month of July. Well, I guess that's what home equity is for, right? The $1100 a month we pay in daycare will be dropping significantly since both boys start school next fall. We just have to make it until then and both manage to keep our jobs. Yay!

Beth, I have a hen that I swear looks like a twin of yours! What kind is she? Someone told me mine might be a wheaten marans cross.

Glad to be back!

My husband used to build new homes and then did remodel work. They laid off in 2008. Then in 2009 he got a job doing metal roof repairs, then got laid off Jan'10. Then FINALLY in Jan '11 he got this job doing landscaping, seeding and fertlizing mostly. He was doing some handyman side work himself... but this dumb job kept requiring saturdays and overtime like crazy... so he never go to the side work he had set up. Lost $100's of dollars he could have made. I'm sure you guys know the feeling very well. This housing market was just too tough on housing jobs. Its too hard to recover from this.

What I want... what I REALLY need... is to start this business like I want. I may have a partial investor for it and then hubby can work for me. I want to get bigger and start stocking coffee houses and specialty shops... and one day stock places like The Fresh Market and stuff! I think between my jams and biscotti... we could have a decent income and control over our own lives. Its so nice to dream!

Unfortunately, hubby is REALLY bummed out and he's talking about selling the house and moving to Iowa so he can go work with his mom. Its also a lousy job... but its a job. We wouldn't be able to buy another home, and we'd have to leave everything behind. I don't like this option... nope... not one bit!

Why couldn't his mama live at the beach or something?! lol

So I just learned a nontoxic way to rid ones house of ants is.... GRITS?!? Apparently it expands the stomach and kills them. Seems rather cruel, but then again, I guess the toxic poisons that kill them aren't any better. Just thought it was funny that we're in the south and a staple of most homes (of course us Yankees don't have grits in the house) around here.

Time to go to the store and buy our first batch of grits?!?
