North Carolina

Under the weather missing the show. Best of luck to all! Stupid body can't keep up! I did noticed smile is still good, so that will have to do! Just put some kids out, with a heat lamp. Checked on the others and my PS Kate laid a egg the size of my conures egg. Thinking my bathing may have upset her. Might just make an ornament from it. Y'all stay warm!

Going to have to fill the coops up with extra layers of pine shavings today. Its just too chilly to leave them so bare. I was hoping to have some hay bails before it go cold to stuff in there... everyone gives them to me from their yards after the use them for Halloween or Fall decor in their yards. Don't wanna spend money on something I can get for free!!!

Its just too cold for me! I have the heat on today, I finally broke down. I never turn on the heat until right before Thanksgiving if I can help it. The bills are TOO high for me to handle anymore.

Which reminds me... Hubby has a job interview on Monday!!!

He's not too thrilled about the work, but it pays about $6000 more then his current job. Hopefully, his ideal job will call and set up a interview as well.

Here's to positive thinking, and awesome friends backing us up!

i'm trying to decide about the cold. thinking about putting my ceramic heat emitter in there just in case my mystery date chickies hatch. i think it should be nice and safe. hope everyone's having a great time at the morganton show!!! and did ht go off to the crossroads show yet? can't wait to hear about all the fun!!! sooo last night when i put up the chickens i had this ooooky shelless double egg in a box! it was like a normal size egg and then a smaller egg attached by a membrane and no shell.

i had both boys with me (along for a night wagon ride) so i decided to just deal with it in the morning, but then the dummies ate it!!!

SCM... Young hens sometimes just lay where they are standing

They will get the hang of it. You will have plenty of eggs before you know it.

We are off to a Halloween Party , so just finished barn chores, tucked the younger birds in and turned on their heat lamps. We won't be too late, maybe 10ish. And I will decide if I need to bring anyone inside then. Already brought in the Silkies that I just moved out.

Just got home from Morganton! Got some new Seramas, a White Cochin (bantam) pair (thanks TPlummer and family), a Buff Orpington Roo (thanks GavinandAllison), a blue Silkie pullet from Tina Cline, and made tons of new friends.

My Polish Roo Romeo came in 1st and Best of Breed, but he was the only one there so IDK if that really counts lol. Simon, my Biggie (Henthymes) roo came in as reserve English and Best of Breed, Which means he came in Second for the English Birds, but best in Breed for the Orpingtons, and my Chocolate Based Serama Tristan (also from HenThymes) came in 1st place of honorable mention. Not bad for my first showing.

I have a broody Silkie, that is currently sitting on 5 eggs, and she is doing AWESOME!! now I am trying to decide if I need to bring her in or not with all the wind and cold weather. She is inside a small dog house, and all the other silkies sleep with her at night so there is plenty of warmth.

I didn't know they went down that far, then found out sh she have been entered as a pullet as she is less than 1 year old. If I'd know she may have won a prize (eyeing the Winston Show now I know what to enter has).......

To Amy and Hunter it was so good to see you andchat more this time. Am so pleased you like your roo - we did name him Goldie... lol

To Sandy and Tommy, so good to see you both again, and what a wonderful pair of partridge we now own.......

To Jessy, thanks for the Dark Brahama's, they are outside around their new home. Settling in nicely.

If I have missed anyone I apologise now..............

And for those that travel 321 to/from show's the Bojangles off of exit 24 - Lincolnton - has fantastic and friendly staff!!

Was so great to see everyone! I came home with 4 silkie chicks from Sandy of Bat Cave Silkies.

Hey Gavin and Allison!!!!! Was so nice to see you, hope those brahmas lay you many nice eggs and make some nice yard decorations

Enjoy those partridge, I love mine <3

Was awesome to meet everyone, talk, chat, see the birds. Shawna came home with a Crele Old english rooster who is a doll, he rode home in her coat, and the last 30 miles in my coat while driving. LOL.

I was there but chose to remain anonymous in case I showed my lack of chicken lore too badly and humiliated myself...

But, if one of you is the lovely lady who sold me 18 Black Penedenesca hatching eggs, you know who I am!!!

If you do read this, please feel free to PM me with more info about the breed: I have been researching and am quite intrigued and want to learn more!!!

Everyone's birds were BEAUTIFUL! Glad I went because now I know my own stock needs a little "boost" before I can hope to show...
