Back to chickens, HT - how was Crossroads???

Broody experts - Esme has not come off the nest at all in several days! I'm worried about her! She has food and water in her cage but I can't tell if she's touched it. I'm so worried about her!

Ally - he's a cutie pie!! Gotta take some pics of your new ducks!

Good night!

Happy Tuesday morning!! I hope everyone was able to dry off after the rain last night. I made a makeshift home for Tink outside last night (took an old rubbermaid tub and cut a hole in it, filled it with old towels and such) since it was so cold and she was hiding under our grill cover. I sure hope the rescue group comes for her soon...it's cold out there and she needs to be inside getting some loving from someone special!! I forgot about the chickens

and had to run outside in the rain to gather eggs so I could do my final count for the month!! DD wouldn't let daddy go (she has a cold

) go I had to go out!! Final tally for October is: 99 brown (light and chocolate) and 23 blue/green!! Not bad for 7 hens, right??

Okay, so only a chicken lover will find the humor in this...I don't know what it was about yesterday, but I panicked when I collected eggs because my brown eggs looked a bit light....yeah, I forgot that my Orps lay light brown and my Marans lay chocolate brown...so for a few moments there...I panicked thinking there was something wrong with my hens causing the eggs to come out lighter!!

Oh boy...it was one of THOSE days yesterday!! haha. Did I mention someone (one of the orps) has decided to start laying in the corner again...WHY?? All the other eggs are in the ONE box (except for Dutchess...my Maran/EE mix who lays in the exact opposite box...apparently she likes her egg all by itself!!)...I think I may need to have a stern talking to those girls again!!

Ally, BHep : Super cute!!

BHep - what color eggs do Australorps lay anyway?? Just wondering how colorful my egg basket is going to get!!

Can't wait!!

I hope everyone has a great day!! I'm off to do the dreaded grocery shopping...that is once the cutie-pie wakes up, then spending the rest of the day sewing & cooking (hopefully more of the former and less of the latter)!!

NH... they lay a BIG med. brown.

I should get a picture of the eggs incubating.

I have to pull some eggs out tonight to lock down. I think I will snap a few pics.

Hope everyone had a happy and safe Halloween! I took two little Transformers (one Optimus Prime the other Bumblebee) and a not so little witch trick-or-treating last night. They had a blast. Either our neighbors love our kids or hate DH and me because our kids came back with a TON of candy!! Sugar highs are horrible things!!

Congratulations to everyone on their placing and purchases at the shows! We need to get some closer to me here on the coast! Three hours is a bit much for me to travel one way with small children. It sure is tempting though!

On another note, I have two bantam cochin hens - one blue and one a blue laced white- for sale. Anyone interested? If not I will be trying to sell them at one of the two Chicken Swaps this Saturday. They are sweet birds, except they don't seem to like my D'Uccles and have taken to attacking them or keeping them penned up in their coop so they can't get out. One of the cochins even goes in their coop, kicks the D'Uccles out, and lays her egg in there. I'd like to keep them together if possible. They are about a year old (got them from someone else) and lay 4+ eggs each per week.

Hi All!!! Back from Crossroads and all I can say is WOW.... over 10,000 birds under one roof.

Had a great time, met allot of people some fellow bycers and learned much. My girl looked awesome but I didn't inspect her close enough before judging, she had two teeny tiny "stubs" aka micro peach fuzz feathers (if you call them that) between a couple of toes so she was not judged. Oh well, one of those "learning lessons" for next time.

I didn't feel too bad as there were plenty of others with the same thing in the orps as well as other breeds.

I had an awesome time and walked a country mile every day.

Not bad, only came home with 5 new birds.

4 are white bantam orpingtons that were in the show.

One is a gorgeous project bantam orpington pullet from a fellow bantam orp breeder.
