Good morning Beth and welcome ASweetHeart and birdface, sun came up early here. but cold out 27* sorry your hatch wasn't 100* but I bet the ones that made it are precious. and when did you get into silkies?

ML... I have had silkies on & off. I hatch/grow, them sell them. Just haven't got a real nice batch. IMO. So I started again.

My oldest DD loves the silkies. I got Lavender Silkies & hatched 2 roosters
lol.png
I have a bunch growing out now....of white, black, blue, porcelain & splash. Even a pretty blue showgirl, looks like a hen.

AND another batch of eggs in the bator. More buffs, white, black, blue. I will see what look the nicest and go from there. So I will have plenty of silkies to sell come spring.

I really want to get my kids into showing. They really, REALLY enjoy the chickens. We have dogs, cats, rabbits, a horse etc.... But the chickens are by far their favorite. So it is something we bond over. I LOVE IT

. I plan on enjoying every minute I can with my kids before they grow up & go off on their own.

My oldest DD is in 7th grade already. I don't even know how that happened.

So my oldest DD like silkies, my youngest (DD) likes anything big... I have a beautiful pair of Eng. Orps from HenThymes.

The rooster is bigger then her body, she carries that poor guy around under her arm like a pocket-book.

My son likes the bantam black tailed buff rooster I got as a freebee.
barnie.gif
I have warned him not to get attached. I really don't even like that breed at all and don't plan on keeping him.
he.gif
Why do I suspect that little rooster will be a thorn in my side.
th.gif
I WILL NOT GET HENS for that thing !!!!
barnie.gif

I am going to pick up my lavender Muscovy's today

I had my DD wash out the big crate.... just in case.

I will also be stopping by AllyR's to drop off some EE chicks, she is only 15 minutes from where the ducks are.

Beth did you see this? lavendar is a recessive gene so you need both parents to be carrying the gene. doesnt matter what colour they are. if you have a blue duck plit for lavendar into a black drake split for lavendar a percentage of the offspring will be lavendar. it can get confusing when you have multiple colours at the same time though, for example light lavendar which is blue and lav at the same time. so apparently its best not to mix your blues with your lavs to avoid confusion. lavs into lavs or lavs into blacks split for lavs is meant to be best.

Yep they sure grow up fast. kinda like the chicks we raise lol. Glad they enjoy the chickens!

ok ML. This genetics is confusing . I am going to ask the breeder how she got the lavs. She has assorted colors and breeds them herself, I believe. I know I will be taking a few extra hens home, I will get the appropriate colors I need.

Bhep-sorry the hatch was less than normal
fl.gif

love.gif
that black cochin she is so beautiful!

Vfem- I pray that the doctors find what is wrong and that whatever it is God will lead you through it and you will come out stronger, and pray that you husband finds a good job doing what he loves! And that soon your days will be happy and full of sunshine!

As for me I will be installing a combonation padlock on my coop! My dogs began barking up a storm last nite and then I heard my bigs squawk, I went out side to find a young kid no older than 13 walking out of my coop carrying my last cochin Lil Lily.

Well I thankfully had walked out with my pellet gun, which look more like a shotgun! The took one look dropped my girl and ran! And now I have a sinking feeling that he must have made off with my other two cochins a while back!

O and the cops won't do a thing about it cause I don't know where the kid lives and I have no proof!

Wild I am so glad you saved your girl and ran off your thief. I had a friend of mine have birds go missing and some be dead for no reason- no blood, no trauma, etc....In a coop that was supposed to be coon proof... and its sad but I told her I bet anything it was a 2 legged predator not anything furry.

its a shame these kids today!!!! Obviously the kid has to be kind of local to be able to sneak out and steal birds, SOOOOO I'd be knocking on doors and find out who the kid is. Find out where they live and tell their parent(s) what the kid has been doing, and if you catch them tresspassing again the law will be involved, and the kid was lucky he wasn't automatically shot in the dark with you thinking he was a predator out to eat your birds.

Best advice I have for you - put the money into a good security or game camera, you can get a good outdoor day/night wireless security cam for around 60-80$ depending on where you look. face it at the door of your coop if you have more than one coop I'd suggest getting one for each. put it inside or right outside the door, so if someone comes up to that door, looking slightly downward - this way you get a good shot of their face if its a person but can still see if its a predator mucking about.
