Bakerbunch- I ordered my chicks from ideal poultry, the shipping is super cheap, the birds are healthy, and you can order as few as 8 birds! All my girls a sweet and beautiful! And when I lost to chicks on the first day they refunded my money. My neigbor has a chicken tractor that holds 10 giants! He put 1/2 inch hardware wire on the sides and 2inch by 3inch rabbit wire on the bottom, the large holes on the bottom allow them to look for bugs, without predators being able to dig in! And if the coop is close enough to the house you could run an extentsion cord out to it! I've got a 100ft cord running out to mine!

Thanks, Meredith. That's interesting. I was wondering about possibly putting chicken wire on the bottom but realized that wouldn't work. I then thought about making an extra wide bottom part (6" on the outside and 6" on the inside) but thought that would make it too heavy even if I used wire. I like the rabbit wire idea though. Do you think your neighbor would let you take pictures of his tractor the next time you're over there? I've been saving pictures of different tractors thinking I would use something from each/some of them when it comes time to make my own. And one that holds 10 is awesome! I like the extention cord idea too!

I just realized I don't have a signature yet. Sorry. I'm going to go check out Ideal Poultry now!

Spent the beautiful afternoon putting wire over top of a big pen I made for my Peacocks. Just have to add some perches and they will move in...and out of the barn.

That gives me another 16x16 pen to fill up.

Nothing new going on here, except..... the homebodies FINALLY ventured out of the coop again on their own!! I will NOT mention that Cottontail finally was able to "hook up" with one of the ladies - DD thought the whole encounter was funny!! Good thing she doesn't know what's what yet and I don't have to go through THAT explanation!! I cannot believe the weather we've been having lately...what is up with this?? Is it spring or winter, honestly?!? I found a dozen or so GRASSHOPPERS hanging out in our yard (yay for the chickens)...I guess they don't know to go away for the winter either!!

Crazy crazy weather!! Enjoy your day everyone, it's raining here!!
