I sell the chickens & the eggs. Usually does not cover the feed bills, this weekend I sold enough chickens & eggs to feed for 2 weeks.
My goal is to get down to the 100s. I have narrowed down the breeds I want to keep. One step closer...........

Chicken fever is starting........ hens and chicks will sell like mad & for big $.
Peas....Guineas... ducks..... tis the season.

So I had a disappointment today....I cracked 5 of the eggs from my RIR pullet...ALL had blood spots. Will this stop as she matures? I picked out the spots and still baked with them.

I am not even sure why or what or anything about blood spots. Guess I will be googling.............


I have seen them in my eggs time to time, I still cook & eat mine. I don't even pick them out.

Blood/meat spots are very common with new layers. She had a vessel pop inside the tract or something tore very slightly. Since she is still laying it may take awhile to completely heal. It is like a tiny sore that you keep picking the scab off. Just takes longer to heal. No need to worry.

I read that you are going to root some cuttings and I have to tell you about this thing that my husband got me for christmas. Its called a cloning machine. There is a rectangular tub with a fish tank bubbler in the bottom. There is a top that you put on it and the top has holes cut into it. There are these neoprene foam discs that fit into the holes and cuttings fit into slits in the discs so that when you place the discs into the holes the ends of the cuttings sit in the water. You plug the bubbler in and let the cuttings sit for a week or so and they grow roots. I have been rooting my passifloras in it and they are rooting so quickly, I'm blown away. I am doing roses too and I bet it would work really well for grapevines.

Well...I tried to play catch up, but you all created 40+ pages of posts while I was gone...how come you can't be that chatty when I am IN town?? LOL. I am happy to report that there is NO PLACE like home!! Had a great time visiting with my mom while the boys worked! Took DD to her first aquarium and she loved it. She thought the fish were playing "Peak-a-boo" with her, so every time one swam behind something and came back out, she would yell "BOO". The highlight of the trip: my dad (who NEVER talks to/holds/plays with/etc..."babies" until they are around 6) was carrying DD around (he last saw her when she was 3 weeks old) and puffing out his chest, showing her off...all because she called him, "Pop-pop". I am telling you I couldn't tell if the urge to cry was due to hormones or because it was just so stinking sweet or both!!
Our neighbor did an AWESOME job (maybe too good of a job) taking care of our chickens while we were gone. I will say he was VERY VERY generous with the feed...our 75lb feed bin was full when we left...it is now 1/3 full!! I think I died a little when I saw that! We offered him all the eggs that we laid while we were gone...those little brats gave him 2 dozen eggs!! I will forgive them because they were sucking up to him and all, but honestly!! His favorite were Belle and Olivia because he said they were "chatty Kathys"!! All 12 are accounted for!! I guess the only thing left for me to do is to head to the Wicked Chicken Auction one of these days when everyone is going!!
I hope you like today's weather...I brought it back JUST for you all from Florida!! It was gorgeous down there...sunny, 65-75 with one day being on the chilly side but that's because of the breeze! If DD wasn't catching up on all the sleep she did NOT sleep in Florida, we'd be outside playing right now. I have some chickens that missed me (I think) and a cat that cried himself hoarse from missing me!! Ahhh to feel loved! Hope everyone did well this past week. Let me know...what all did I miss?? LOL
