Thanks for the invite... I will not be able to attend. I have a class that day for my fostering license.

NH.......... I found this on my FB page. It is a "how to" on making chicken saddles.

Thank you so much!! I will look into this!!

DD is still sick, but DH and I managed to plant all 11 of our trees!! We had to laugh though, because what we thought we were ordering and what arrived were TWO separate things!! I thought we were getting the kind of potted trees you buy from Lowes or Home Depot but instead we were given these little grafted "stubs" and I am not sure how the plastic guards they sent are suppose to work as they are too big for the stubs we have. HAHA. Too funny!! Live and learn!!

I am thinking we may need to start selling some eggs as we have yet again 4 dozen sitting in the fridge!!

Just wish I knew enough people that needed to buy eggs. Somehow I don't think I could sell enough to break even with the feed. Speaking of feed, I am heading out to Cary tomorrow to pick up some feed!! YAY!! Let's see if we can last this month without someone overfeeding them!!

As for ducks...yup, I am thinking/wanting some ducks too!! At the moment we have too many eggs - I've been baking a chocolate cake almost daily (much to my DH's delight and dismay) to use up the eggs!! My sister in law - says that nothing tastes better than roasted duck or goose (she lives in the UK so I guess it's more of a "normalcy" than here?!?). I guess I have to learn to process chickens before ducks and then go from there...IF I can handle the processing!!

I need some answers and I feel sure that someone here will be able to help me. My splash cochin, Shelia, died a couple of days ago. I was out of town for 1 1/2 days, she was fine when I left, and dead when I returned. No signs of any injury, others in coop/pen with her are fine.We have had her about 4 months, and do not know how old she was. The only clue is that she frequently had what sounded like the hiccups. I have been told that chickens can't have hiccups as they do not have a diaphram. So, what do you think? And, one of the cochin roos is making a noise similar to those Shelia made. All are eating, drinking, peeing, pooping, running around like normal. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

Roasted goose is

. I can't give away my extra eggs here. Neighbors either have their own chickens or don't eat farm eggs.

Sorry about your birds Dlockey, hope the roo gets better.

I am worried that what you are describing as hiccups is actually a sneeze... that could indicate respiratory issues. If one had it and died and now another does, sounds contagions.

X2! I think what is being heard is a raspy occasional cough. If it were me.... the Tylan would come out and nip it in the bud before it goes any further.

we had a hen that sounded like a bit of a hiccup......turns out she swallowed a stone a bit too big and was having a hard time getting it to go down. The hiccup sound was it blocking her airway as it settled against her crop and when she tried to move it she did like a hiccup sound. unfortuntaly she did not manage to get it past her crop and she died. home done necropsy confirmed the stone. hope your bird gets better soon.

to the new folks......glad to meet you

I'm glad to see so many of you go to WCA. I was there last Sunday, got there early enough to score the big couch in front.

I have gotten all my chickens there. A year ago I was living in Atlanta and, after church, going to Starbucks on Sundays. Now I'm in a small town (Wendell) engaged to a man with 52 chickens, going to WCA and checking a hen house every day like a treasure hunt to see if there are eggs. I'm hoping for lavender babies this spring, if my rooster is doing his job. We haven't actually seen him, but I'm hoping.
