Ducklings finally made it.... they are tuckered out. Hubby had to help them some.. as we didn't want to lose them.

Awe...how cute Mary!!

Happy Tuesday everyone!! Hope everybody has a great day. Not much going on here - just some bread making and lots of vegging until this silly "morning sickness" decides to leave!!

Those of you who free range and garden...how do you keep your chickens out of the planted seed beds?? We have a wire fence put up (temporarily), but this does not discourage them and I don't want to spend my days chasing them out of the garden or locking them up. This weekend we will have the netting required to go around the fencing so it won't be an issue, but any suggestions?!? Thanks!!

We have four-foot fencing around the garden. The "chicken moat" runs around that, with more fencing. The inner fence keeps the chickens out of the garden. The double-fence keeps the deer and rabbits out of the garden. And the chickens in close proximity keeps a lot of the bugs down, plus they're on hand to toss tomato worms and such to. The chickens have access to the sheep pasture as well, but I can close the pophole to the pasture and keep them in the moat when I need to, such as when I have point-of-lay birds that need to learn to use the nest boxes. Back when I kept muscovies, I'd keep a mama and her clutch in the garden to keep the bugs down, especially when Japanese beetles were heavy. I can also easily let the chickens in the garden for clean-up in winter, if I'm not running a winter garden.

Of course, I have fat, fluffy, not-prone-to-fly Orpingtons, but the turkeys don't cross the fence either, unless one comes down from the roof wrong.

Good Morning.........
