Good thing I always shy away from chicks and wait for older ones (close to POL)!! I don't have the set up for chicks (and DD would probably LOVE them to death) so I steer clear of them. It's helped so far keep the chicken math in check. Good luck if you happen to look at the hatchery, I will say S&H seemed to be a little high but then I've NEVER bought anything live and had it shipped before!!

DH came home from work early so he could build my sweet potato box!! He's outside right now putting the finishing touches on the box - WOOT!! Now we have a potato box and a sweet potato one. Hmm...maybe I'll convince him to make another for onions (his favorite)!!
So two NON-chicken questions for you all. 1) Anyone know how to ripen green bananas? I bought some green ones for DD and thought they would ripen (as the ones you usually buy go brown in like 2 days...lol) and they have sat on the counter all week almost and not even a shade lighter than green!! 2) Aside from Johnston County Humane Society, does anyone know of a good place to find a kitten (female) that is relatively close? The JCHS takes you to petfinder and they give you a list of all of the animals within 100 miles...I don't want to drive 100 miles for a kitten!! LOL. We were thinking of surprising DD with a kitten as a present from the new baby or for her birthday but didn't know where else to look. I fell in love with like 20 kittens on PetFinder only to find out they were in VA or D.C. ...even one close to home for me - Ohio!! LOL. Thanks everyone. Have a great evening!!

Not real familiar with that side of the state, but have you tried craigslist? There are normally alot of free kittens and even some that are already fixed for a small fee or free.

Executive decision made .... I am staying home this weekend.

No swap...no auction. I have about a dozen chicks to sell and some eggs. So eggs will get boiled up and chicks will wait until next week. I need to go through my coops and figure out who goes and who stays. I already need a more coops.

I still have decisions to make on who else needs to go and more DO need to go!! I have about 15 dozen eggs in the refrigerator that need to be used up one way or another, another 50 eggs on the counter that need new homes, approx 200 eggs in the incubator at various stages and approx 75 chicks in brooders at various stages.
