Gah! Sunday hours! No place to get a freezer today! Thankfully, it's packed full, so it will hold until tomorrow.

Some years back, when my kids were little, I knocked the plug out of the wall on the chest freezer on the way out the door to a Little League game. I didn't notice until the next day. It was only about half full, although it was cold, everything was thawed. My (military) hubby was deployed. We did not have funds to replace all that food. So I pulled out the smoker, started smoking all the meat, and then called friends and offered to swap smoked meats for meats to put back in my freezer. We also ate a lot of veggies for a few days. I managed to salvage a lot of food, but I would hate to go through that again!

Ok... I've had my heart SET on getting some serious land one day. I love my house, and I love situation.... but I doubt we'll be able to retire very well when we're older. We just don't get all the good stuff... 401k, health insurance (any kind of stable job will work for me at this point!)... anyways, so the plan was to grab up a few acres. Plants some fruit trees on it to sell the produce to suppliment income later on in life, and if need be, move my parents trailer to it... or have it to build on later. A total DREAM I guess you could say.

I just happen to LOVE where I live... so I say to my husband, I wish some land would pop up over this way. WELL, sign went up, they are auctioning off 25 acres in smaller tracks . Smallest track of 2.75 acres!

I WANT IT SO BAD!!!! WHY NOW?!?! UGH!!!

So Thursday 4/5 I'm planning on going up to see what they go for. Even more so, the agent will be on site this Wednesday at 4pm to answer questions from interested parties.

What does about an acre of land go for?

There were under 400 boxs...I think it was in the 360s and was over at 5pm.
Came home with a cockatiel, 2, 35 gallon barrels with lids and a dozen phoenix eggs.

It depends on area location location location and if it will perk test so you can build on it. I would love to get some land myself 10 acres would be nice. but it could go as cheap as 4500 an acre or way more!

Just had to pop on tonight to say that I THINK I may have a broody cochin!!

I put the chickens up earlier than normal because we were headed out and would not be back until after dark, and I fed them...out of a nesting box my splash cochin popped. I didn't think anything of it, until DH came in this evening from collecting eggs and told me she was in the same nesting box I saw her in several hours earlier. He THINKS she is sitting on about 5 eggs as we only collected 1 and we usually get between 6-8 eggs/day!! I am not sure if she is really broody or not, but I am HOPING. DH thinks it would be a great way to replenish our stock!! :) I asked him if she "growled" at him when he went to check on her, and he said she didn't...but he didn't try to look under her or take the eggs from out from under her either. LOL. So...how long will it take before I know whether or not she is truly broody or just getting kicked off her spot on the roost? LOL

Any news/update on WCA from anyone either?? We are all in withdrawal here!!

It all depends on location hun. Out here where I live it can go REALLY cheap in some areas and down right ridiculous in other areas - it all depends on what surrounds the land, in town, country, townships, suburbs, agriculture, etc.

I would wait til Tuesday if shes still sitting in there Tuesday - you can try keeping eggs under her. Test her tomorrow and see if she growls or brustles up, but I always test my first time broodies for 2-4 days before commiting to letting them have any eggs. Make sure you mark eggs you want her to sit on so you can still collect fresh eggs someone may lay in the nest.

Thanks guys... this is in a mixed development and agri area. This was in fact farm land selling through bankrupcy court. It is RIGHT across the street from my subdivision and is boarded by 2 houses, horse pasture and more farm land that isn't being sold. It has road access and a creek that divides the property in 1/2. I want to plant the back acre with a peach orchard for retirement income and the front half to build a home when we retire.... 40 years from now!

I was trying to figure out how bad I want it. Enough to take from our retirement savings? If it went for $8000 I'd kick myself for not getting it. If it went for $30k... I could live without it. :p

This is in Harnett Co, but its Fuquay right over the Wake county line.
