(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

No, I’m not new to chickens. I’ve had chickens before. However, it’s been more than 10 years since the last time. Just got chicks at the beginning of March 2023.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

I currently have 22 chicks, four of which are from Tractor Supply and three from a local farm.

(3) What breeds do you have?

Jersey Giant, Easter Egger, American Bresse, and chicks from feral chickens in our neighborhood. I believe them to be Old English Game bantams most likely. A neighbor’s tree service disrupted a clutch of 15 eggs and there was nowhere to put them back after the incident. I candled the eggs and could see many embryos. So I put them in an incubator.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

Watching them is like therapy.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

Cats, animal husbandry, soapmaking, and watching YouTube videos about my favorite interests, which right now is chickens. :0)

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I have been a homemaker for the last few years. I take care of 11 cats.
