One other question have you thought about raising rabbits also for food? I think there feed to meat ratio is really good? Just a thought
I Have to agree with you, much easier to raise over chickens and multiply like crazy. For some people who get too attached to them have a difficult time with processing fluffy. :(
 
Good for you Ron :thumbsup it is for sure more peaceful than the govt! Sounds like you're enjoying the freedom and tranquility that farm life brings. There's lots of chicken wisdom here to learn from. WELCOME

Hello my name is Ron. I’ve restarted my chicken raising hobby in anticipation of meat shortages in the future. I want to get ahead of it. Im retired from the Federal govt and have moved home to the family farm with my wife.



(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

I am not new to chickens but I’ve never raised more than a few until now.


(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

I have about fifty at the moment.

(3) What breeds do you have?

Black Austalorps (the wife’s choice) and RIR/Delaware Whites (hoping to raise golden comets for eggs)

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

It keeps my mind occupied and I find it peaceful.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

Of course, woodworking and beekeeping. And gardening

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

Nothing special, couple dogs, coupla cats

I was a member maybe 6-7 years ago but my user id didn’t work. Oh well.
