North? South? East or West?

You can't always place a coop in the ideal location on your site,
and geographical location, as well as your sites micro-climate, can have can an affect on the solar gain aspect.
In your climate heat will probably be more of a problem than cold.
Sounds like you have good handle on how to adjust things.
Your idea to block morning sun is good, that the west sun is blocked by trees is excellent.
I wouldn't fret it too much, the front of your coop (or anyone's), does not have to face south.

Thank you, Aart!
Appreciate your feedback, as always.

Should I place the run a certain distance from the north wall of the coop so that (when I hang nylon) it will better provide them wind protection, or does it not matter if there's a greater distance between coop and run?

Run should be attached to coop, wind block material can go on run in winter.

Yes, that's the plan.
But the coop will go (at least partially, if not fully) INSIDE tge run, more on the south side of the run. So there will be a large space between the windblock on the north side of the run, and the entrance to the coop. Just wondering if that distance makes no difference, or if the wind will blow over the windblock and fall just in front of the coop, if they're too far apart :)

Might want to start a new thread on this.

To Noi.......out of curiosity......at the new location........why can you place the coop oriented east......and not be able to rotate it 90 degrees on the same exact spot so the open windows face south?

Can you provide a sketch or photos?

Also......did I read that right.....you are putting 33 birds in a 6' x 12' house? If so, that is about double what you should be doing. A run will help.......would be almost mandatory for long term use.

The yard is pretty slopey, so orienting it south would require much more leveling than a very specific corner of that area which is almost flat, and which orients it east.

And I'm building an 18x32' run :)
It will be predator proof (1/2" hardware cloth all over plus apron) and they will have 24/7 access to it.
Plus they'll free range almost every day.
So they'll be pretty happy in there, I think...
