Ok, I am looking into the possibility of raising meat birds for the first time and know I won't be able to process them myself...it's just not in me at the moment. What options are available for people like me in CT who raise them wonderfully, but can't...well...do the deed!??

Can you get the help of someone with experience who can teach you the process and simply psyche yourself out and do a few birds? Its not a pleasant thing to do, esp if its your first time, but I forced myself to do the deed enough times out of hard-headedness and now its not so tough.
I once had an oriental friend.....they like to kill their own meat. Its a culture thing. Well I struck a deal with him. He killed 2 birds for me and one for him out of each 3 he did the deed for. That worked out well for both of us, when I had a lot of meat birds and not much time. But he has passed on, since then. And I have gotten faster and more accurate and I guess greedier.

I hear ya, but I think if I were to do this, especially at first, I would need someone else to do it. That may be pathetic, but it would need to be baby steps, it at all for me.

I don't know anyone around here who raises meat birds...just layers..but I don't know alot of chicken people either!

ps...if anyone is out there reading this and wants to strike a deal to process the meat birds for me, I am open to ideas. I live in northeast CT.

They were $3 or $4 each, quick, clean, friendly. You can watch the whole process. Call ahead.

I used to know a guy in Woodstock that would do it but he has passed away. I think the guy he worked with down there still does it though. Try putting an add out on Craigslist. It's worth a shot and you never know who might reply.

im in the same boat . im raising turkeys , chickens and guineas for the enjoyment but also need to have some for meat. i used to do the humane slaughtering myself and say a prayer and thank them for there lives, but now after having lyme and immune system problems, i cant take the chance of exposure to parasites and blood born infections because i cant fight them like a normal person . 10 years on antibiotics and immunoglobulin because i loved the outdoors and animals.
if anyone out there near woodbridge ct can help, it would make me very happy and id be happy to trade birds or pay for someone to slaughter them with kindness and care.i give them all a great life while they are here. thanks in advance, Jeff
