Northeastern Poultry Congress - Springfield, Mass - Jan 14-15, 2012

Alrighty!!! I am officially signed up. It was a hard decision but, I picked out 12 birds to show. I know I must be nutz to pick that many but, I really need some feedback from judges and fellow breeders on my stock for next years hatching

Roberta, why are you guys in such a frazzle over this? You don't need to be NPIP - I've never seen that requirement for shows. That is a different program. You just need the pullorum certificate, which is very easy to get. Whatever certificate that you have that states the birds that are entered are pullorum free, and that certificate was completed within a year of the show date, (meaning they had to have been tested since LAST January 14), is acceptable. Once you hear from the show officials, they'll tell you what they want. Really, this is not a big deal. You're still well within the entry date, and I'm sure you'll hear from someone by then. I haven't even had my birds tested yet, although they will be before the due date. Relax, would you?! Be cool, like me.

How do you get your birds tested so easily Mary? I have to have the State vet out and the paperwork takes FOREVER. Is there a way to just get the Pullorum test and quickly?

She "knows somebody". I don't think she realizes what crap us commoners have to go thru.

Looks like I got some kind of letter coming from NYS, to say whoops, your tests really are good for a year. We just wanted to make you crazy.
Can't wait to see what kind of day I will be having on Jan 13, say, around....6 pm.

There are a number of testers that have been approved by the state. They are all over the state, and generally take care of what testing needs to be done in their area. Once I took my birds to a tester's house because I forgot until the last minute. Usually I expect there to be a two-week wait for an appointment, so I plan accordingly, or if I want to go to the tester's house, it can be sooner. They test the birds, and give me the certificate right there - done.

Is it that different in other states? The certificate they give me is the one I send, and I've never had a problem with it.

I have not found that to be the case here in NH. Does anyone know if we have private "testers" in NH?

Each state is different. NY is a pain, but not that bad.
Try going online, dept of agriculture for your state.
I went to the Delmarva show last year, FANTASTIC experience. Had my bird tested the Friday before.
He also sent me swabs to check for AI, all the paperwork, great, professional, helpful.
I asked when it was all done how much I owed him, no charge, just doin my job.
I guess MD cares more about their poultry industry more than other states.
And, you don't have to go thru the state, there are private testers, it's just the antigen is very expensive.
In fact, Murray McMurray (I believe) sells the test kit, but you have to be licensed to certify.
Try calling the vets in your area?
Good luck. Is that your holdup, the testing?
