In your Living Room

Wow you love your little chickies!!! My DH would ring my neck if I brought them in our living quarters of the house. I'm only allowed to bring them to the mudroom or the basement and that's pretty much it.

As I moved back in with my folks after my divorce, my chicks - and any sick chickens I may have - all stay in my bedroom! I had chicks in there for almost four months, from a combination of two hatches. The dust! And let's not even talk about the poop smell!

April, I have seven LF - two brahmas, two cochins, a JG, a Speckled Sussex, and a Faverolles. I'm gonna be soaked!

And yes, I AM crazy, in case there was any doubt.

Wow that is wayy wayy to many to bath!!! OMG your are going to be SOAKED!

As for the in the bedroom dust and stink (wow your brave!!!!) I get the stink eye just carrying one of my chickens outside of the Chicken Pen area. I swear my husband put up that 6 foot high fence ALL the way around my entire chicken housing complexes on purpose to give me a message of..........>>>>> This is where they are and this is where they stay, No outside the Big House Fence!!!

I bathed my first chicken last week, something took a chunk out of her right buttock (not true chicken anatomy, I know), anyway, there was something about reading what you all wrote about your apprehension, that got me through.

It was kind of like, 'well, these guys have been doing it forever, and they still dread it, so it's okay to be nervous'. And it got me through. And miss Thing was a real trooper, she didn't even squawk and only flapped once!! Of course I didn't have to wash all of her, but I did have to flush out and then wash out a pretty traumatic wound. I covered her all up with triple antibiotic ointment and then kept her inside ummmm... The Kitchen, for a day until she dried, then moved her to the basement for two more. I put her with the flock tonight as it has warmed up quite a bit, but if the others are picking at her, back in she'll come.

Oh, and I presently have chicks on my kitchen counter and in my kids bedroom.

You're a cool mom!
Don't forget the spare bathroom, I must have around 50 in there right now.
And the bator is full.
And I will be buying more next weekend.
Not that there's anything wrong with that....
