I've come to BYC several times while planning my flock and trying to get a zoning variance approved to allow me to have my hens, but I have never posted. Good news! My zoning variance was approved on Monday. My husband and I are constructing the coop this weekend and will hopefully move our three beautiful Rhode Island Reds into it next week. I live in a small farming community, but was still surprised at how pro-chicken the zoning board was. I had a unanimous decision to allow my birds despite my grumpy neighbor showing up at the meeting to protest. Unfortunately for her, I had a well organized proposal, thanks in part to BYC, and she just had ridiculous responses that boiled down to "I don't want chickens in my neighborhood." So sad for her that I will not be bringing any of my egg to her house to share.

Thought that I would share my good news with fellow chicken lovers. Will post coop pictures and more pictures of the girls once they are moved in.

Hi and :welcome

Glad you can have your chickens now! Love your avatar, it's very cute. :p And hey, the folks that don't go for chickens don't know what they're missing out on ;) lol, but unfortunately not everyone sees backyard flocks in the same way.
Congrats again!!

Don't hesitate to ask any questions you might have, and enjoy the site. :D
