Hello all. I just wanted to introduce myself and my family. I have a 9 year old son that has taken a liking to poultry. He has shown chickens the last two years as a cloverbud in 4-H. The first year he took a chicken that he won from the pullett pursuit. He kind of latched on to them.

I actually had a fear of the birds (I know weird) but it stemmed from my childhood. Story for another time. But we just moved to the country so we are starting our own flock. We would like to have a mix of breeds to see what we prefer down the road.

Is it possible to ship eggs for hatching in the winter. We like the idea of hatching our own chicks. I have a few eggs from a local person in the incubator know. We just had a silkie hatch a couple days ago.

This is a great site with a wealth of information.

It's harder to ship eggs in winter and summer. But it's not impossible. Check at some hatcheries such as MyPetChicken, Meyer Hatchery and Mcmurry Hatchery.

That's wonderful your son has taken an interest in poultry. That's something he can continue to learn about and enjoy his entire life. I think kids taking care of animals teaches them a lot about life and some good work ethics.

Nice to have you & your family join us, enjoy those birds!
