Hi there, I have a pullet who's nostrils are clicking. Here are the answers to the questions in the sticky:
1) What type of bird , age and weight (does the chicken seem or feel lighter or thinner than the others.) Barred Rock, 6 weeks, feels the same.
2) What is the behavior, exactly. Her nostrils are making a clicking noise. When I hold her, she breathes with her mouth open and 'clicks'.
3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms? Since we got her. (1 week old)
4) Are other birds exhibiting the same symptoms? No
5) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma. No
6) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation. The chicks were sleeping in a plastic tub in the bathroom. (Our bathroom has a mold issue)
7) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all. MannaPro Medicated Chick Starter, Hose water.
8) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc. Normal, with a few normal runs here and there.
9) What has been the treatment you have administered so far? None
10 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet? Treating the bird at home.
11) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help. I do not have a video at the moment. It is loud enough where I can hear her when she's on my lap though, so I'll get audio when I go out there again.
12) Describe the housing/bedding in use. They are in the coop. We use shredded paper.
Is this normal and I'm just being overreactive (not the first time
), or is there an issue? Thanks for reading.
