In the Brooder
So...I never expect showy chickens when I give in and buy from tractor supply...however I am really stumped on these "hens" I have. I purchased three "blue splash bantam cochins" and one "black splash bantam cochin". They're about four or five months old now...I assume they're all hens? Anywho they are MASSIVE compared to my buff cochin roo I got from tractor supply in a "mixed bantam" bin earlier in the spring. I love these "girls" so I'm not too mad but I was hoping to have a small bantam cochin flock with the buff roo "Nugget" being the sire. Well...now it looks like Nugget will prob have a heck of a time trying to breed those big gals lol. The three "blue splash" and one "black splash" had splash markings as chicks and WERE BANTAM TINY...but now I have three almost solid white birds and a solid black one as well and they are as big as my copper maran roo lol. I have read that splash can come in at different times...the one white one has a small smudge of blue on her wing but it's barely noticable. So....could these still molt out to be splashes and are they standard cochins? Oh and do they all look like hens??? I tried to take some good pics but they de
cided to hide in the one carport to find bugs and didnt give me any great pics lol.
