No problem!Thank you both!! You’re the best!
I kind of wondered about his size too… seemed big. The buff Brahma is close to his size. A little smaller. Do you think she’s standard as well?Your Light Brahma appears to be standard, not a bantam. He is a cockerel along with your Calico Bantam Cochin. Others are pullets.
Yes! Brahma Bantams have a very different structureI kind of wondered about his size too… seemed big. The buff Brahma is close to his size. A little smaller. Do you think she’s standard as well?
Thank you! This is so helpful! Looks like these babies will move to my friends farm then. She has 60+ chickensYes! Brahma Bantams have a very different structure
One more question… you seem knowledgeable about the little bantams… is it okay for me to have 3 pullets with my one calico rooster? Or should I have more pullets with him? A larger flock? Debating on whether or not to keep himYes! Brahma Bantams have a very different structure
I think it should be fineOne more question… you seem knowledgeable about the little bantams… is it okay for me to have 3 pullets with my one calico rooster? Or should I have more pullets with him? A larger flock? Debating on whether or not to keep him
I would just try it out and see. It’s so rooster dependent. Some will over mate the hens and some won’t. I would buy the girls some saddles for good measure. I usually listen to the girls. Watch their body language and determine if they’re uncomfortable. I’ve had various ratios with various results so I can’t say one way for sure. I wouldn’t freak out yet and instead try it for a few months and see if you notice the hens being visibly uncomfortable/become defeathered. In my experience, you can usually tell when the hens like the rooster and enjoy their company. I had a Brahma rooster who would cause mating de-feathering damage on ten hens on his own (this would be more common with lighter breeds) but they loved him and he was respectful even though he was clumsy. I didn’t see an issue here because he wasn’t actually overeating them and instead was just a bit uncoordinated. I remedied with some saddles. Sorry for rambling but I think it’s a very much case by case basis! One more question… you seem knowledgeable about the little bantams… is it okay for me to have 3 pullets with my one calico rooster?
