Not completely waterproof normal or not normal?

Hi my 8 week pekin duck absolutely loves to swim. I find it quite intriguing how they waterproof there feathers and am always taking notice of the progress. She is very well waterproof everywhere except her underfeathers and just all the feathers on the bottom side of her. She floats fine and swims without and problem but I have read about wet feathers and things about them getting cold and I do not want this to happen to louis. Is it normal for them not to be waterproof where Louis isn’t? Or does it take time and will they eventually become waterproof.

What you're seeing is just a little bit of teenage fluff that apparently hasn't fully "morphed" into her real waterproof feathers, just give her a few weeks, the feathers will mature and start interlocking and will gain water repellency. She is still a tad young.

She should become more waterproof as she gets older and gets fully feathered. It looks like she still has some down feathers there on the belly and has not gone through her juvenile molt yet.
