NOT culling Buttercup - she's on the mend.

Oh I really hope you can do something for your hen too.

I was reading all sorts of info, and I read that cod liver oil going through the bowel can help by causing irritation on the other side and hopefully help the egg out. Of course it would also cause the hen to completely prolapse due to the increased need to push. But I think it's worth a shot. Plus if there is any deteriation in my hen I can cull her instantly to avoid distress.

I'm glad she is feeling so much better. If she has more problems in the future, I hope you feel like you can still come to the forum for emotional support. You don't need to go through it all alone and wait to tell us until afterwards.

They have access to crushed shell 24/7. I keep all the shells and heat them then crush them down. They have a dish which is full for them to peck from. I have even started putting some of it in their food to make sure she gets some too.

She is completely back to normal like none of this ever happened

I know it's likely to only be a reprieve from the inevitable, but I will take what I can from my favourite hen. It seems that the cod liver oil I gave her did the trick and helped her clear what was blocking her up. But I have no idea how long she will stay on the mend.
