My 8 week olds have been free-ranging in the backyard about 12 hours a day for almost 2 weeks now (we still don't have the run built), but they are hardly consuming any grit. Could it be that they are getting enough pebbles and such while out in the yard? Everybody seems and looks healthy, but it looks like they hardly touch the grit. They aren't eating much feed, either, but I think they are just getting their fill outside in the yard.

They will eat all the grit they need. Yes, they are probably getting some from the ground. Remember, the grit stays in the crop for a while -- it doesn't pass along the gut nearly as fast as food does.
