I have one hen that lays late in the day, a few times she's laid while roosting. My concern is that she takes forever to lay her egg, sometimes hours. She's not happy about it either; grumbles, pecking the side of the nesting box, and yelling when anyone comes close to the box.

Her eggs tend to be speckled and have extra, extra bloom on them. They'll stay wet for an hour or more after being laid.

She's otherwise healthy, great appetite, no funny stance. Am I micromanaging?

Wet for an hour?! OK, that's a new one for me. I'm not sure what that might mean for her health. Are the eggs very easy or extremely hard to crack, or just normal?

Other than the wetness she sounds like an average territorial layer to me. Plenty of mine like sitting long before or after and get fussy if anyone or anything tries to interrupt. If there's no blood or odd behavior I wouldn't be really concerned, just observing for anything else.

The eggs shells are a normal consistency. Not fragile, but not difficult to crack. The extra bloom is odd...but all animals are different I suppose. The whole egg doesn't stay wet for an hour, but the bottom laying on the nesting is still wet. I can tell hers when I wash them too.. extra rinse required.
