Hi all,
I lost one of my 2yo ISA browns today. She seemed totally fine yesterday (I know they're sneaky with illness, but she was jumping up for mealworms yesterday, right as rain). Today I went out to do morning chores and found her in the coop, half-dead. Eyes closed, laying very still, and very clearly on her way out. There was a significant amount of clear fluid on the coop floor (like if you poured a measuring "cup"- worth), and more leaking out of her vent. No blood. I think I could've seen a lash egg, or some odd white material (maybe egg membrane?). I just couldn't do anything with her right then, so I left her there with plans to cull ASAP. I went out to cull her 4 hrs later (I did the best I could with time), but she was already gone. My previous ISAs have had various laying problems (internal laying, prolapse, weak eggshells), and I know ISAs are prone to reproductive issues. I'm thinking maybe the egg broke while she was trying to lay? Would it have killed her that fast? As far as I know, she's had no recent issue with laying. Just trying to figure out what killed her. Thanks.
