I've had this buff orpington hens for a few months, and it has a weird comb/wattle situation. It has red wattle-textured skin all over its head (hard to see in picture, she wasn't feeling the photoshoot) and on a strip of its neck. No feathers grow there. Its just...all wattle.

What's the deal??

The backside im a bit unsure of, the second photo looks perfectly normal. Some chickens have extra red around their eyes and such, thats no concern. The first could be just its neck, their skin often looks red like that. is she getting picked on?

Do you have a rooster? My roo can overmate my Orpington. When he does, she ends up with a bright red area behind her comb. Makes me so angry! I separate him when I see her head starting to look like that.

I do have a rooster, but I had her first and she's always been like this. I wish I had a better picture. If you touch it, it's rubbery red wattle. Not a problem, just haven't seen it before! The stuff on her head isn't as odd, but the spot all the way down the neck is conspicuous. My husband came in yesterday and was like "one of the chickens is bleeding". I said "no, that's just the red nick skin I've been telling you about forever....take a picture so I can post it online"

The head skin isn't as odd. The neck is actually rubbery red comb skin if you touch it
Not a scab or anything. It's so weird. Not a problem, and surprisingly the other chickens don't peck at it. It doesn't appear to hurt it. But anytime anyone sees it they're like "that chicken is bleeding" and I feel compelled to chase it down to double check/have them also look at/touch it and acknowledge the oddness 🤣

My husband didn't believe me that it wasn't injured until I made him touch it and take the picture for me, ha.

It's not a problem. I don't expect to do anything about it. I guess I've got no reason to post it here
