Where is your hotwire located? Those wires that are visible seem to be touching the ground, so I imagine they are not charged. And what the heck happened to his head? Your chickens eat him?

Several strands around your garden will keep the deer out too. If you ever want to hear one of the most awful sounds in the world, a deer hung up on an electric fence will stand the hair up on your head. LOL. I was working as a security guard at Mountain Lake Hotel (where Dirty Dancing was filmed) and spooked a deer as I walked up to the horse barn one night. It ran right into the fence and screamed for at least 30 seconds until it got loose. It was unlike anything I ever heard before.

A single strand around your garden will keep the deer out...if placed at the right height.
