Not fully formed chick? *PICS MILDLY GRAPHIC*

Sorry--I'm stumped. So long as the chick is active and eating then perhaps see how it goes? There's also an injuries forum. I found another thread that sounds like the chick perhaps tore the yolk sac while peeping at https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=291404

I
don't know--I'm used to only dealing with healthy chicks.

If the chick is acting ok, at the very least that wound needs to be disinfected. If you have neosporin, try to keep it clean with that if you can. Personally, I would put some broad spectrum antibiotic in the chicks water to try to ward off infection. Others I know don't like to use antibiotics for fear of building up resistance to them. I have never had any kind of issue with that and treat with them when I feel it's needed.

If there is an actual need for the antibiotics, don't feel bad and worry about building tolerances. It is only really an issue if you provide antibiotics when they don't really need it. I would add antibiotics to the little guy's water, and treat the wound with an antibiotic ointment. I think it is an umbilical wound from tearing the yolk sac, but I am not an expert. If it needs to clot, you can use styptic powder or a little cornstarch.
