i haven’t been getting alerts from forums i am watching. Is there anything I can do to restart them?

Yes, go view one (them all), the last page, then you will get another alert for it once someone posts again.

You won't get any alerts for posts in any thread until to view/click on the last alert received.

the alert system is tricky to understand how it works.

If you don't view/clear the first alert you get for said thread (by viewing the post) then you won't get any more alerts for that thread.

If you aren't getting alerts for a thread it's because there is nothing new in the thread or you haven't viewed/cleared the last alert.
