Some roos barely have spurs at a year old, some can be about an inch long. Year 2 will be "the spur growing" year.
 
I'm sure there are some TRUSTWORTHY BYC folks in your area who would sell you some point of lay pullets. I would if I were closer to you. Look at the "for sale" ads on this website to find someone in your geographical area. You can hook up with someone a little more honest and knowledgeable than the people you were dealing with before.

I totally have a gullible stamp on my forehead...when we first bought horses we were sold 2 and good for beginners....we got 2 green horses! lol How good are hatcheries at sexing chicks? Maybe I will go that route in the spring.
