not laying eggs

I have four hens that are six months old and four pullets that are three months old. two of the four older ones have red faces and one of my hens will stay in the coop all day long if I let her but she wont sit in the nesting boxes i put golf balls in the nesting boxes to encourage her to sit on them but she is content with sitting on the floor. she has also been making these really loud sounds the past couple of days. It sounds almost like a roosters crow because its so loud and this is the first time that she or any of the hens have done this. none of them have layed any eggs yet they have food and water all day long and a run and several roosting spots. i dont think that she is stressed but still shouldnt they start laying eggs right about now?

It's hard to wait for that first egg! I have some breeds that I waited what seemed like forever until they laid. 6 months is about time, and the noises you are describing could be the "egg song". Hopefully you'll get one any day now

I'm having a bit of a problem. I let my chickens free range and I havent had a problem with them coming to the coop to lay eggs. However, we added some boxes and cleaned the coop (during the day) and now I'm getting like one or two eggs a day when I was getting six to eight. Did we just mess up the routine or do i need to go look for eggs in the yard? And how do I fix it if this is the case?

Aren't those Light Brahmas cockerels????? They sure look like it to me. I have a Light Brahma pullet almost 5 months old and she looks nothing like these. She looks very feminine. These two look masculine, and appear to have saddle feathers growing in.

Hopefully others will comment. Maybe I'm wrong!

I would have to agree with the give it time comment. I had some that didnt lay untill they were much older than yours. It sounds like your doing every thing right. Your answer may just be patience. Just keep up the good work and you will eventually see the fruits of your labor.

they are Brahma/Chantecler mixes maybe that is why they look like that for a long time i thought that one of them was a rooster but it never grew spurs or really long tail feathers so i guess the two white ones are hens

I have now started using apple cider vinegar with mother (in the raw). I put it in the water and my chickens doubled their egg laying and the ones that weren't laying, started laying. I also heard that it is very good for their immune system, digestive track and many other benefits
